Tim Burton is hot off Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the movie looks very innovative. Don't forget Nightmare Before Christmas made over $50 million and it does have a fanbse.
However, I still think it looks too dark for children and a bit too weird for most adults. Going to hurt it.
Opening weekend - $17 million
Total gross - $58 million

I think Shack is closest to the truth. Music stores and comic book stores are still selling Nightmare merchandise after 10 years, and they aren't leftovers -- it's new stuff. How many movies can say that?
Goth and stop-motion animation are tailor-made for each other. Burton makes it fun.
If this is anything like Nightmare, it will look frontloaded, but then WOM will kick in. $22M / $93M.

Nightmare did 50 million 12 years ago. I don't know how much that would be if adjusted, but probably at least 80 million. And Nightmare has developed a HUGE cult following ever since.
Also, this flick can use Depp in the marketing, along with Burton.
It's tough one to predict, but I guess it should do at least 50 million. I'll say:
25/75.
Except some frontloadedness thanks to the pre-established fanbase.
