My favorite is definitely Lions Gate. They are one of the few ballsy studios out there. They aren't afraid to take chances on the more controversial movies that other studios pass up. My second favorite is Fox Searchlight, who has released many great films and some of my favorites (Kissing Jessica Stein, Thirteen, Garden State, etc...).

bump to anyone who would like to answer any comments on the individual studios - good, bad and indifferent. I never really thought of them other than seeing their opening logo at the movies. What are the major differences between the studios, etc.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sony - They have a goldmine in Spider-Man, but ughh...what were they thinking with Stealth and xXx 2?
Fox - The win the award for best studio of 2005, based on their marketing for Sith, Fantastic Four, and Mr (s) Smith
Warner Bros - These guys are so stupid, if they fell out of bed, they'd miss the floor.
Paramount - Doing well, and this new deal they have with Marvel makes them my heroes.
Bueva Vista - I'd have to look up who's in their stable, so they're a bit under my radar, which means they need better films.
Universal - a shadow of it's former self.
Lions Gate - They've done well with very little money.
New Line - They do very well for themselves.
DreamWorks - Growing. Not great, but not bad either.
MGM - Sucks every year that a Bond film isn't carrying their sorry asses. Hopefully Sony will straighten them out, now that they bought the studio.
Miramax - Nothing special comes to mind.

New Line -- I love 'em. They're the antithesis of Dimension Films. And I hate Sony, though that has more to do with my 10-year-old love of Nintendo than anything else

I like WB and Fox the best.
Sony can be good at times (ex. Spider-Man II), but other times, they release some pointless sequels as well (ex. European Gigolo).
