Yeah. Nights like this makes me long for the award season to come even more than before because during that time films are of consistently higher quality.

Here are my great crowd reports.
Undiscovered
2:15 - 3 people.
4:55 - 4 people.
7:30 - 17 people.
10:05 - 15 people.
. In fact, this was the worse performance for a wide release movie we have ever had. It did even worse than Supercross. Looks like my manager did a great job at booking this in the smallest theater (in fact, he did it for a personal reason, which was that he loathes Ashlee Simpson). Overall, this was the second lowest grossing movie of the night (even behind Stealth, the Island, and yes, even behind War of the Worlds). This will definetly struggle to get to 1 million for the weekend.
Matando Cabos
2:50 - 1 person.
5:35 - 2 people.
8:25 - 44 people.
11:10 - 13 people with 10 minutes to go.
Dirty Deeds
3:00 - 16 people.
5:45 - 9 people.
8:30 - 44 people.
11:20 - 23 people with 20 minutes left.
(At least these two movies got some attention).
The Cave
12:40 (200 seater) - 14% full.
1:55 (300 seater) - 19% full.
3:40 (200 seater) - 9% full.
4:50 (300 seater) - 10% full.
6:35 (200 seater) - 30% full.
8:00 (300 seater) - 24% full.
9:35 (200 seater) - 66% full.
11:00 (300 seater) - 42% full.
(Not as bad as we thought. It looks like a 2 million Friday performer to me).
The Brothers Grimm (both 400 seaters)
12:35 - 12% full.
2:00 - 15% full.
3:40 - 15% full.
5:00 - 20% full.
6:45 - 32% full.
8:00 - 47% full.
9:50 - 64% full.
11:10 - 34% full with 10 minutes to spare.
(Not bad, but not great either. It should be able to collect about 4-5 million this Friday).
As for holdovers.
The 40 Year Virgin was easily the winner. It sold out the 9:20 show (600 seater), and it got 80% full for the 10:20 show (600 seater). Excluding the 12:15 (which hasn't started yet), it dropped only 24% from last Friday. 6 million Friday seems to be where this will go.
Red Eye held on better than expected too. with the 12:05 show still to come, it dropped 52% from last Friday.
Valiant dropped 39% from last friday (this is final by the way).
With midnight show still to come, Four Brothers declined only 35% (it sold out the 9:15 show in the 200 seater), and Skeleton Key held on with a 44% drop. Expect good holds for these movies.
Wedding Crashers is running out of gas here, so is Charlie. March of the Penguins is still hanging in there. It dropped only 12% from last Friday (despite losing a show).
And finally, Supercross sold out 9 tickets total, which translates it to an 89% decline (ouch).
All in all, this Friday was worse than usual. This is by far the worst August Friday ever. It never got off the ground.

The Cave
12:30AM showing, 200 seats, about 20 people (including me and three friends).
Trailers
The Exorcism of Emily Rose (whispers)
Cry_Wolf (nothin')
Flightplan (talking)
Roll Bounce (lots of laughs)
The Fog (whispers)
Doom (whispers - the guy behind me went "holy shit" at the First-Person shots)
Movie
After a good six months of anticipation for this film to be released, I must say...I'm dissapointed. Not that it was awful like some are describing it, but there wasn't much good about it, either. I felt bored until the last 15 minutes of the film, and the movie just felt like it was dragging on at times. Being filmed underwater for some parts, the camera got extremely shaky, which annoyed me a little. I never really got excited in this film, which usually doesn't happen for these types of movies. The movie is good to look at with nice visuals, cool looking creatures, etc. I'd say that if not for the exciting, fun last 15 minutes of this movie, I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all. I liked the ending...a lot. It's no Pitch Black or Alien(s), that's for sure. C
We got there a little early, so I peaked into The Brothers Grimm, and there were about 30 people in a 300 seater. That was during the trailers, so I'm not sure how many other people showed up. It doesn't look great for that one, either.
Also, while standing in the popcorn line, I saw the 10:15PM showing of The 40-Year-Old Virgin being released. It was packed. I think a weekend around $16-17 million is possible.

I saw: Dukes of Hazzard
200 seater, 65% full. I live in a small town with only 2 screens, tonight was opening night for Dukes here. So I'll go by my own judging system. It did nothing special, but alright. Doesn't touch WC's packed opening. I think the audience kind-ve like it. On the scale I give its attendance a 7/10, WC was a 9, Star Wars was totally packed a 10.
Oh and the movie gets a C+ from me. I liked Jessica Simpson and the Super Troopers gag/actors.

I put 15.9 in, lowered from my 16.1 before. Still not bad. I was surprised how much drop some people were predicting this weekend. 37% drop for an excellent WOM movie like this? Nah.

I wouldn't think that Scott's area/theatre would be the busiest for Brothers Grimm, and it should do a lot better in major cities like NY, LA, Chicago, etc where more of Gilliam's films have played well.

Looks like Virgin is still doing very well...not so good for Brothers Grimm and The Cave.

Looks mind-numming. 6 hours of movies for 2 C+ and 1 D. Not Priceless.

I actually think that's an awful drop for RED EYE. How could you be expecting it to drop worse than that?
Anyway, I thought it was obvious VIRGIN would be #1 again. I predicted a 25% drop with a weekend of 16.1 Million. No way would it drop higher than 35% and that would be shockingly high for this movie. WOM is amazing and audiences are loving it. It's going to have great legs. I myself haven't seen it yet, but actually might in theaters since I love Catherine Keener.

I clearly said, leaving out the 12:00 show for tonight. With the 12:00 show, the drop would be between 44 - 46%.

Are you saying that my theater is not in a major city? It happens to be one of the top ten markets in the country, so with a performance like this, this is not good.

How did Four Brothers perform at your theater, Scott V.? I would expect no more than a 43% drop since it has been doing well.

I know you said that, but I didn't think one showing late at night would make much difference. And a 44%-46% drop is still a lot. I didn't think it would really drop more than 35% with the awesome WOM and the little competition (the new movies didn't offer much).

It only increased 2% last Saturday, so there was very little chance that it would drop 35% this weekend.

Still, that doesn't always matter. It was just not the kind of movie that usually increases a lot on Saturday due to it appealing to a lot of younger people. Even DEUCE BIGALOW 2 increased more on Saturday and look at the drop that had the second weekend . This won't drop nearly as much. Maybe it will drop 40% this weekend, which is still solid.

Well that's not what I've heard. And if that many people hated it it would have dropped more. I've heard great things. It sounds like it's a crowd-pleaser. Reviews are also great.

How am I crazy? It's even #2 on THE MUST LIST in the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. If audiences aren't liking it then I guess it must have an ending that mainstream people will hate, because I've heard that it's a non-stop thrill-ride and similar to CELLULAR. EW readers give RED EYE a B+. FOUR BROTHERS had only a B from EW readers and that has held pretty well (EW gave the movie a D).

I think It was a joke, Mike. NOt a very funny one, but a joke, nevertheless.
