The Transporter 2
Amazingly enough, we don't have a prediction thread for this yet, despite being released in 3 weeks amd having alot of buzz around here.
As for me, I smell a XXX2/Elektra...
Opening: 10.2 (4-Day: 12.5)
Total: 23.0 (2.26)
Predict (And flame ) away.

the trailer gets a great reaction every time I see it, so no way this bombs. xXx2 changed stars and nobody ever cared about Elektra, can't compare them to all action sequels. Im thinking around $23M for the 4 day. With over $50M total.

Tough one to predict. On the one hand, action movies have been pulling in dissapointing numbers, but a similar performance for this one wouldn't be so bad, as the other action films were expected to go over $100 million by most.
Also, Labor Day weekend will help, and the marketing has been great, with some awesome money shots in the trailers and commercials. I think this could possibly pull over $50 million total, but I'll lowball this one because of all the recent action film performances.
$14 million opening, $36 million total.

The trailer has been attached to almost every movie I have seen in the last few months. Looks good. It will make more than the original which made $25m I believe.

Ugh, I write a long message, and it gets lost. But my point was that Labor Day weekend isn't good at all for New Releases, as no movie has ever made over $40M total, and only 2 have ever made $10M+ over the 4-Day weekend. Not what I'd call a good weekend.

There's an explanation for that...
Almost all those movies sucked.

And studios put sucks movies in sucks weekend.
BTW, I think that Fox made a good decision by putting "Transporter 2" in Labor Day weekend.
1. "The Transporter " isn't a big office hit, so put "Transporter 2" in a the least competitive weekend isn't bad.
2. Fox got a very [great] deal to release "Transporter 2"; it doesn't have to gross much to become a profitable film for Fox.
PS: Does "Transporter 2" in Entertainment Weekly's Fall Movie Preview coverage? For this year's Labor Day weekend movies, I only know that "A Sound of Thunder" is in it. (Sorry.... I am not in US right now )

Nope. They dumped it in their "Other September Releases" bit, where they called it a Man on Fire/Kill Bill clone. Not good...

Thank You~~
Yes, "Transporter 2" trailer makes it look like "Man on Fire 2"...... ("Man on Fire"(2004) is a remake movie, though) Will it hurt? ("Man on Fire" and "Transport 2" have the similar target audience )

Man, with this action movies slump, this one is really tough to predict, but it should at least do better than the original, but it won't be a megahit. The original didn't open well, neither did it have great legs. This one should get at least 300-400 theatres more than the original and a slightly better PTA, I suppose.
Opening weekend (3-day) - $12.6 million
Total gross - $33 million

I think it's possible that the current Labor Day weekend record of $18,365,222 (held by Jeepers Creepers 2) has a chance to fall this weekend. It'll need a $5,750 PTA (over the 4-day weekend) to achieve the record, which I think is highly possible, considering the marketing and theater count.

i dont see how transporter 2 is a man on fire clone just because it involves a kidnapped kid.
if anything its like man on fire meets kiss of the dragon.
remember this is a luc besson film, so its flare for the dramatic and its international flavor attract viewers.

It's worth noting that Transporter gained quite a following on DVD. And Statham especially is quite popular nowadays, for many he is the best action star of the moment.
So a 15 million opening and a 35-40 million finish sounds reasonable. I expect it to do better than the first one, since the fanbase expanded so much on DVD.

The trailer looks terrific, but I don't think the first one was big enough for this one to be huge. I didn't even know a sequel was possible with such a lackluster run for the first film. But the trailer is terrific although early reviews say otherwise...I think this spells frontloaded.
Opening: 14 Million
Total: 35 Million
