Tuesday Numbers
Except for Penguins, rather weak holds across the board for a Tuesday. Canada might have had an effect.

This type of movies tend to increase big on Tuesday, so not increase any is consistent with other movies dropping unusually hard.

On monday, yes, there was a Canadian holiday in most provinces. August 1st is generally called our "Civic Holiday" and apparently is "a much needed long weekend to augment the short Canadian summers." But it has a different name in different provinces. It's not a holiday in Quebec, Newfoundland, or the Yukon Territory. But it's a statutory or civic holiday in all other provinces/territories. Anyways, that's why it's rather unknown, but it did effect the box office, as Canada usually does if we have a holiday that America doesn't.
PEACE, Mike

Monday was a holiday here. Therefore Tuesday numbers would be lower than expected due to more people going to the movies on Monday.
Nevermind...Mike explained it better.

I don't mean to sound ignorant, I live in Alberta, and I've never heard of Civic day and nobody here celebrates it. Its just regular old August 1st here.

It's a civic holiday, not a holiday like Christmas that you "celebrate". It's simply a day that people usually get off work, but it's different everywhere. In Alberta, where you live, it's classified as "Heritage Day". In Nova Scotia and PEI it's "Natal Day". etc.
PEACE, Mike

Could this possibly explain some Sunday drops? I mean The Island dropped only around 12.8% on Sunday...I thought that was rather weird.
In any case, it'll be an interesting race between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Wedding Crashers, both heading towards $180+ million.

It's definitely an interesting race, and it'll be close. Something good to track.
