Or they wont see a movie 20 times at the theater, they wait to see it at home on their big screen tv.......

I'm not going to comment on Algren's SW rant, but just saffice to say that SW was the second massive film to come along and the first massive series of films. Nothing can touch that.

Tickets sold isn't fair either towards newer releases because movies which came out a few decades ago didn't have to compete with a whole bunch of alternative entertainment options and DVD's on top of everything. _________________

Lets just face it, I am sorry LOTR fans, I love your series, my third fav (behind SW OT, and of course James Bond) but SW is just more popular than LOTR, when SW was released look how many publicity stunts happened, how many spoofs happened, and how the public was completely in love with SW, that never happened with LOTR, in fact back in the sixties more people were obssessed with Bond because look at all of the spy spin-offs of Bond back in those times. I am not trying to put down LOTR, but SW is more loved by the general public, now LOTR is probably more liked in Europe, Austrailia, and Asia (besides Japan), but here in the US, and in Japan, SW is the number one most beloved series of all time.

How many spin-offs or spoofs of LOTR do you see?? Very few, in fact hardly any. _________________

Gone with the wind is the highest grossing film adjusted is it not?
I doubt any film will beat the numbers of tickets sold for that film.
And SW isnt the most beloved series in japan,That honor goes to Harry Potter where all 3 films have outgrossed all of star wars films.

Look, i'm not claiming what's more popular or beloved between the two franchises (unlike you), what i'm saying is that such things are hard to gauge and it's not as clear cut as some of you might believe it is. _________________

To honest you are ind of correct, the only LOTR spin-off I have sen is on South Park, but they do SW spin-offs left and right.
To be honest again, we won't really know who is more popular until 20 years from now, and see if LOTR is still being talked about.
