Therefore, I will lower my "A Sound of Thunder" prediction
$800,000/ $1.6 million If a movie like Suspect Zero can open better then that after being delayed, and even The Great Raid with almost no advertising opened to $2-$3 million there is no way this will open to only $800,000.
Apparently The Great Raid had tons and tons of advertising according to what I read here on the boards.

I think A Sound of Thunder will open with at least 5 million. It is an action film and has dinosaurs. If Warner even bothers to advertise it the film should draw an audience, even against Transporter 2 and other more high-profile films. I personally think it looks decent from the trailer (What a short trailer at a mere 1 minute).

The Great Raid did have a lot of advertising, it just started late.

Should have clarified, no early advertising. I expect A Sound of Thunder to get some good advertising soon.

Warner needs to pick up the pace for this film unless they actually want it to bomb. I have not seen the trailer in theatres or a single TV spot. I had to seek out the trailer on apple.com in order to see it.

"The Great Raid" is financed by Miramax itself, so Miramax have to give it somewhat good advertising.
"A Sound of Thunder" is financed by Franchise Pictures, which went bankrupt during the post-production of this movie. Warner Bros put up just 0% of the budget.
Therefore, Warner Bros has no reason to give it the good advertising; thet release it just want to fullfill their contractual obligation (based on the Warner Bros's deal with Franchise Pictures).

Still, one would think that they don't films they release to bomb since it doesn't reflect very good on their yearly market share and other such things.

" Ray Bradbury reports that an early screening of the Peter Hyams adaptation of A Sound of Thunder was spectacular. " They added things to my story that made it even better." A rare and unusual admission by an author to say the least! "

I still haven't seen a single TV spot let alone a trailer for the film and it opens in two weeks. There's little chance that this doesn't tank now. It MIGHT manage 4-5 million opening weekend if it's lucky. Too bad because the online trailer presents what looks like an interesting sci-fi premise with decent action.

I think that it won't be lucky to manage 4-5 million total....

What kind of theatre count do you think the film is likely to receive?

I predict about 1000 theaters.

It will get more than 1,500 theatres. If Supercross managed that, Sound of Thunder will as well.

From IMDB message board - (Mon Aug 22 2005 13:55:00)
Quote: I am on the west coast and hacve seen numerous commercials for this during the 6PM to 10PM time...and throughout the weekend on various channels.
Because of those commercials, I am interested in seeing this film. This was one of my favorite short stories when I was a kid -- and I have seen tons of folks do some part of it... its nice to finally get an "unbasterdized" version (I hope anyway) of it.

Personally, I think that REEL SOURCE tracking is unreliable.

I've seen some TV ads, and I gotta say they don't look half bad. I wouldn't be surprised if it opened around 10 million if it's in over 2,000 theaters.

It'd need at least 2,600 theatres because no way it is getting a PTA better than Stealth, hehe.
Personally, I see something around Timeline's numbers, maybe a bit worse. $5-7 million for the opening.

You're sure against this movie.
It's still going to open higher than your $1 million prediction, though.
