Hey guys, here is my theater report.

March of the Penguins (200 seater)
1:40 - 10% full.
4:00 - 16% full.
6:20 - 16% full.
8:40 - 21% full.
10:55 - 10% full.
(Oh well, I guess it's not popular here).

The Devils Rejects
2:05 (150 seater) - 34% full.
4:45 (150 seater) - 19% full.
7:45 (150 seater) - Sold Out.
10:15 (600 seater) - 67% full.
12:45 (150 seater) - Sold Out.
(Pretty Good considering that it was on 1 screen. But because of theater shifting, it is hard to tell where this will go).

Hustle and Flow
12:35 (150 seater) - 17% full.
1:30 (600 seater) - 3% full.
3:35 (150 seater) - 27% full.
4:30 (600 seater) - 7% full.
6:35 (150 seater) - 46% full.
7:30 (600 seater) - 15% full.
9:35 (150 seater) - Sold Out.
10:30 (150 seater) - Sold Out.
12:40 (added) (200 seater) - 47% full.
(This may seem kinda low, but remember, Urban movies never do robust business here. Maybe it will be higher at other theater).

Bad New Bears
1:05 (200 seater) - 39% full.
2:35 (300 seater) - 20% full.
4:15 (200 seater) - 20% full.
5:30 (300 seater) - 22% full.
7:05 (200 seater) - 51% full.
8:40 (175 seater) - Sold Out.
9:55 (200 seater) - 78% full.
11:40 (175 seater) - 64% full.
(Not bad at all, considering that is only played in medium sized theaters. A friday gross of 4-5 million seems to be where this will go).

The Island
12:00 (175 seater) - 18% full.
12:45 (300 seater) - no people.
1:35 (400 seater) - 17% full.
3:10 (175 seater) - 34% full.
4:05 (300 seater) - 19% full.
5:00 (400 seater) - 17% full.
6:30 (175 seater) - 62% full.
7:25 (300 seater) - 37% full.
7:55 (135 seater) - 49% full.
8:20 (400 seater) - 33% full.
9:50 (175 seater) - 86% full.
10:45 (300 seater) - 80% full.
11:15 (135 seater) - 81% full.
11:45 (400 seater) - 61% full.
(Considering that this theater usually does great business with these kind of movies, this is pretty bad. We coundn't even sell out a show in our smaller theaters, which makes this performance even more embarrasing. 6 million friday seems to be the upper limit).

Believe or not, but out biggest grosser this Friday was Wedding Crasher (no I am not kidding), despite being on only 3 screens (2 less than Charlie). It sold out the 7:40 in a 150 seater, the 8:20 in a 300 seater came close to selling out. the 9:40 in a 600 seater sold out (the biggest audience for an individual theater tonight), the 10:40 in the 150 seater sold out, the 11:25 in the 300 seater sold out, and the 12:40 in the 600 seater got 40% full. Looks like a big sophmore gross for this (could this take number one from Charlie).

Charlie only sold out the 9:10 in the small 90 seater, with the rest in the bigger house not even coming remotly close to selling out (mostly 50 - 60% capicity).

Fantastic Four sold out three time (all in 90 seaters). WOTW sold out one show in a 110 seater. Mr. and Mrs. Smith got one too (in a 90 seater).

All in all, it was a solid Friday, with no real standout performers, just widespread dollars, especially on holdovers. Good Night.

I went to the 9:30 showing of Wedding Crashers and it was sold out. I expect a 35-39% drop this weekend. Great crowd reaction to the film as well.

Thanks, Scott! (Wow, that's not good for Bay or DreamWorks....too bad since The Island is probably the best movie of his career)

Define best. Because I find all of his movies entertaining. Especially films like The Rock, Bad Boys and Armageddone. I don't think this is his best, maybe his most"serious" but not his best.

The Movie -

Bay, who'd thunk you would be the one to deliver a timeless sci-fi film in 2005.

A movie where Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson fist-fight in front of two giant Xbox logos, followed by an extreme close-up of an Aquafina bottle, is not timeless.

Well Blade Runner became a timeless classics despite having logos plastered everywhere(many companies the movie seems to outlasted)

Product placement in sci-fi films is hardly something to judge a film on Dark Shape

2001 - Whirlpool, RCA, GE, IBM, Pan Am, NASA...
Blade Runner - 7-Up, Chevrolet, Coca Cola, Fresca, Atari...
Minority Report - Nokia, Pepsi, Reebok, Revo, Toyota, USA Today...
Men In Black films - American Express, Aquafina, Ben & Jerry’s, Bulgari, Burger King, Gap, Guinness, Lexus...

Not to mention the Back to the Future films, ET, Fifth Element...

The Island at 7:05 PM yesterday
500 seat theater, 75% full

Trailers-
V for Vendetta- Amazing
Red Eye- New trailer
Flightplan
Stealth

Movie- My third favorite Bay film after The Rock and Armageddon. I was surprised at how good the story was for a Bay film and the action was great as always including one of the best car chase scenes ever.

Wedding Crashers

The Grove Pacific-5:50pm SOLD OUT, actually after walking out of the theatre I noticed that this and FF were SOLD OUT for the Night.
Around 300 people I guess.

Trailers
Domino
40 year old Virgin
Deuce Bigalo

40yov and DB got a great reaction

This was such a funny movie, The best of the year probably. I think that they made the film great, it was soo funny in the beginning, and kindof slowed down, like most comedies. But overall I had a blast. there was tons of laughter and clapping at the end.

A- from me.

Not that anyone's still really speculating about it number-wise, but I saw a 7:45 showing of Crash at the Houston Angelika (down here visiting family). About 90% full in a 150-ish seater. Pretty full, actually.

Didn't think it was flawless, but I did like it a lot. My sister thought it was the "best movie she's seen in a long time."

Review later.

Wow. Crash is still playing? I wish I had the chance to see it again, but it's all out around here.

I used to work for Pacific Theatres and there was one saturday night where at 4:00pm every show was sold out for the rest of the night. That theatre always gets insanely busy.

The Island, 7:30pm, Woodland Hills, CA, about 300 seats and 85% full.

None of the trailers got any kind if response, so no need to go into them.

I loved the film. On par with I, Robot and Blade Runner, and not quite as good as Minority Report.

Also, when buying tickets, Fantastic Four, War of the Worlds and Wedding Crashers were all sold out for about the same time, and I peeked into Hustle and Flow and it seemed to be about 75% full in about a 200 seater.

The Fantastic Four is doing surprisingly better than most are willing to admit or give it credit for and it deserves to..

Yeah, too bad it will finish under $150 million, and make atleast $50 million less than Batman Begins.

The Island

10:20 AM showing at Edwards Bakersfield 14

20% full, 300 seater.

Trailers:

Red Eye- Great reaction.
V is for Vendetta- Mild reaction, nothing special.
The Fog- Great reaction.
Just Like Heaven- Great reaction.

I liked the movie. I thought it was great. The audience also seemed to enjoy it. I thought it was a really fun movie. It's a shame its not doing very well at the box office.

Fantasic Four

1:05 PM Showing at Edwards Bakersfield 14

55% full, 300 seater.

Trailers:

The Legend of Zorro- The crowd really loved it, alot of people cheering, and mentioning how much they liked the first one, and this one looks even better.

Ice Age 2: Meltdown- This had the best reaction of them all. The kids, and parents were all so excited, and everyone, including myself found the teaser to be hysterical.

I liked the movie, it was nothing special, but it was a lot of fun, especially for a summer movie. The audience really loved it as well. They were raving about it when it was over.

Today, here is the sold out performances.

Wedding Crashers.
7:40 (150 seater)
10:40 (150 seater)
(the others, which were in the 600 seater, got 60-70% full during the night).
This was easily the best performer today, as was yesterday. It increased a nice 31% today.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
12:10 (90 seater)
6;10 (90 seater)
7:20 (150 seater)
9:10 (90 seater)
(The others in bigger theater didn't even come close to selling out, mostly 40-50% capicity in 400 seaters. Overall, it increase only 8% today).

The Island
8:20 (175 seater)
9:50 (175 seater)
(Despite those sell outs, business only increase a mere 2% here).

Devils Rejects
12:40 am (150 seater)
(overall, it drop 20% from yesterday).

Hustle and Flow
9:35 (150 seater)
10:30 (250 seater)
(Despite not having a 12:40 show today, it increase 10% today, rare for this type of movie).

Bad News Bears did not sell out a show (the 8:40 got 70% full in a 300 seater). It increased 12% today.

March of the Penguins increased 137% today (does that make you happy xiayun). It sold out the 1:40 show in the 90 seater.

Other sold out shows.

Fantastic 4
8:00 (90 seater)
9:05 (135 seater)
10:05 (135 seater)

War of the Worlds.
7:15 (110 seater)
8:10 (150 seater)
10:00 (110 seater)

Mr. and Mrs. Smith
8:00 (90 seater)
9:15 (90 seater)

Also, Must Love Dogs Sold Out 45 minutes in advance in the 150 seater (encouraging so far).

All in all, it got pretty busy today, thanks to the fact that they were no standout performers, but alot of spread out business (hence those sold out shows). Good night.
