Great for the openers. I expected CatCF to do big numbers but I didn't expect Wedding Crashers to make over 10 million opening day. That's great for the film. The holdovers all took a pounding. Next weekend will be interesting to behold.

I guess I am the only one surprised by Charlie's Friday gross. I really didn't think there would be that much interest for it. Good for it though. As for Wedding, that's a very nice number.....it will definitely crack 25 mill which is very nice.
Any idea what SW did?

I was a little surprised for Charlie, I didn't think the public would go for such a MJish type character. I wonder how the legs will be. It wouldn't surprise me if it dropped hard next weekend.

I'm actually thinkin' it'll have a good drop next weekend. First of all, it's very well recieved (from what I've heard). And, if HP6 really is going to have an impact this weekend on Charlie, it will only make next weekend's drop softer.

F4 was also very well recieved according to many here, and look at it now,im not saying Charlie will drop the same but there is a possibilty it will drop a bit hard.
I bet Mojo's numbers will be much diffrent from SBD.

X2 was also well recieved and that dropped quickly too. Comic book movies almost always do, so there was no doubt that Fantastic Four would not have a long run (except for BKB, who expected the " POTC" of the summer...).

I think F4 weekday numbers didnt help matters either since people were saying it was going to be a kids movie. We already saw how much damage that Charlie did to Madagascar. If anything holds true, Charlie should be getting the strong weekdays that Madagascar was getting and if they do hold up, Charlie may drop less than 50%. Dont forget that unlike F4, Charlie has strong RT ratings when the defenders of F4 were saying that people were giving the movie lots of claps

Fantastic Four never has been and never will be a flat out kids movie. If it was, it wouldn't have dropped on Saturday of the opening weekend. Yes, it does have kids appeal, but so does Spider-Man. That didn't make Spider-Man a "kids movie".

Zingaling summed it up nicely, but...
Remember, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, like Pirates of the Caribbean, is the kind of movie that depends on legs and audience reactions. It's too weird for many people - these same people, hearing the good reactions, might be more willing to see the movie. Fantastic Four, though, is a summer blockbuster. People know what they're getting, and WOM (that's either slightly positive, neutral, or negative) won't do anything to help the movie. The fanbase is already set and it very few outside the fanbase/demographic will be interested in it.
In a nutshell, people can be persuaded into seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory based on good reactions.

I would definitley tell people to watch Charlie instead of Fantastic Four. But at the same time, I can't straight out recommend Charlie either.

CatCF is gonna have great legs. There are *SO* many people who have already seen it multiple times (3 times so far, myself), and still planning to see it more! Even my *sister* is going to see it a second time, and she has NEVER done that deliberately for a movie before (other times, it was because her friends wanted to see a particular movie she'd already seen).
My sister's a hard one to please. And she LOVES this movie. It's the first time I've *ever* seen her so excited for a movie and actually want to see it again. I'm quite surprised myself.
Anyway, CatCF's audience is comprised a lot of HP, PotC, and even LOTR fans (at the midnight showing, two teenage girls in front of me yelped out excitedly, "It's *SARUMAN*!!!" when Christopher Lee came up onscreen the first time). PotC fans are notorious for multiple viewings (how do you think PotC made so much?), as are HP fans (if satisfied with the movie).
Yeah. CatCF is gonna have great legs.

Yeah the bigger movies increased the most by percentage wise and the smaller films increased the least. Normally its quite the opposite. Very strange

Wow, unless Saturday numbers end up stronger than usual, I'm going to do fairly bad on the holdovers.
PEACE, Mike
