Nice number for MARCH OF THE PENGUINS, yesterday I saw two tv spots, I was quite surprised. I think THE ISLAND will go up a bit, hopefully it will get 3000+ theaters. BAD NEWS BEARS is too high, I hope it crashes and burns  THE DEVIL'S REJECTS better go up, all my town has it a ten screen theater now because the other four screen closed, if it doesn't go up, my theater probably won't get ot

THE BAD NEWS BEARS - I think this should make just as much as HARDBALL did, maybe about $50 million overall though and a better opening.
$21 million

THE ISLAND - It should do okay and it will have really small drops, older people will flock to it, I think.
$16 million

THE DEVIL'S REJECTS - Should do good, the first has a huge following, believe it or not, people do love it. With the good reviews and positive reaction this is getting, it should have no problem to have a great opening.
$14 million

HUSTLE AND FLOW - I just can't see this doing that great. It looks awful. Even with the good reviews, I doubt it will draw that many people.
$9 million

Strike that, reserve it. Michael Bay movies always have huge openings and bad drops.

No matter how much I want to see it, the estimate isn't that great, if it is anywhere close to that, I wouldn't expect a "great" opening. A lot of people that have seen it say it's GREAT, so it should have very good word of mouth.

The Island should do fairly well opening weekend, even if it is in only 2800 theaters. Michael Bay has a huge following, but this could be one of his lower opening films. The marketing campaign has been very odd with numerous different trailers but until recently nothing that was truely defined.

Regardless of that, it should open with at least $35 million, though closer to $50 million isn't out of the question. As I've stated before, it has a very good moral/social context and could generate some good WOM. It isn't Bay's best offering, but it is still good enough that it certainly won't bomb.

The Island: $34 million (I'm hoping this does a lot more, but the odds are against it...)
The Bad News Bears: $18 million
Hustle & Flow: $11 million
The Devil's Rejects: $8 million

In truth, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has an excellent chance of staying #1 for two straight weekends. It's heading towards a $60-65 million weekend, and even if it drops 50%, it should still be over $30 million.

C'mon, The Island! [-o<

Im pretty sure that the theater count would increase for Hustle & Flow (gotta increase the body count due to shooting in the theaters *BAD ROID BAD JOKE :xena: * ). It really does look like theres a high tracking record for the movie and could play like a smaller version of Fast and the Furious. If the theater count increases by another 500, Im bumping it to 18 million

Theater count seems kind of low for the Island. I guess about 32-35 million

Predicts:
The Island - 35-40 million
The Devil's Rejects - 10 million (This will be far too gruesome and sick for wide acceptance, much like the original)
Bad News Bears - 18 million

With that high of a theatre count and Zombie's following there's slim to none chance that the film will open that low. I originally thought that it might do 'High Tension' numbers which would be around your prediction but the theatre count and promotion has been too heavy for that to occur.

During the peak of summer season, I don't see much interest other than from the small band of his hardcore fans.

House of 1000 Corpses opened to $4 million in around 500 theaters. I can't see less than that for The Devil's Rejects.

Not $4M but $3.4M

High Tension made $1.8M from 1323 theaters. So higher TC will not be a big factor.

But 'High Tension' was in French (Lions Gate tried to hide it through trailers and TV spots devoid of dialogue but audiences aren't complete idiots and those who read reviews would know as well as those who were told by others). It still holds true that the general audience hates to read subtitles, effectively killing 'High Tension's' chances at the box office.

Not helping matters were the large number of people who saw the film through bootlegs and imports, not nearly as much of a concern for 'The Devil's Rejects' which is also bolstered by Zombie's name, bigger than anything 'High Tension' could claim to have going for it. Plus, unlike 'High Tension,' the film isn't rehashing 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (At least it doesn't look as much like it is), a theme I think people don't care for unless the film is called 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.' This is something 'The Devil's Rejects' has over House of 1K Corpses, which DID look like a TCM rip-off.

High Tension was dubbed into English. There were no subtitiles.

As anyone who saw the film can attest, subtitles were still present, along with the all too obvious dubbing which in itself hurts the film's perception to audiences.

The first fifteen minutes is dubbed, the last five minutes is dubbed. Everything else is in subtitles. Did you see the film in theaters? He's talking about the version in THEATERS.
