These are the likely winners of the opening weekend predictions. Zingaling is the closest at the moment, but of course it all can change once the actuals are out.
Algren - $17 million
BacktotheFuture - $17.2 million
Zingaling - $17.5 million

The Grudge had very much going for it. First of all, movies opening the weekend before Halloween are usually better off than the ones that open directly on Halloween. And the many other reasons: 1. The Grudge had no horror competition to go up against when it opened. SAW had to deal with The Grudge which was coming off a huge weekend. 2. The Grudge has Sarah Michelle Gellar who definitely attracted many people from her Buffy fanbase. The Grudge had a major teen factor going for it whereas SAW is more of an adult movie and SAW has no real stars. I mean Danny Glover is its biggest star, hehe. 3. The Grudge reminded people of The Ring. The Ring was a huge success with amazing WoM, good reviews and it was overall beloved. People knew that The Grudge is also a remake of an Asian horror movie, so they flocked to the theatres to see it.
Besides the already mentioned Geller / Buffy link which is huge. You also have the Grudge being a straight horror movie while SAW had that twisted aspect of a wierd movie with the SAW part. That is going to turn off ALOT of movie-goers.

You also have the fact that Saw is rated R, so that many teens who want to see Saw may not be able to get in, so they will see the Grudge (rated PG-13) instead.

Or they buy tickets for The Grudge and sneak into Saw

That is really awesome for Saw, considering there wasn't a ton to reel people in from the trailers.

However, I am almost sure that SAW has already made back its whole production budget.

Is it true that it's production budget was $1 million? I knew it was low, but wow if it is that low.
$17.4 is definently awesome for Saw. It pulled off an awesome $7,500 PTA.

Well that is the budget that I read in a magazine and IMDB states the same. I am sure that it didn't exceed $10 million anyway, so no matter what, this movie is a success. I hope it will reach $80+ million worldwide.

I think 80M worldwide is a lock, its already done about 10million in UK and should end up at about 13-14M, add that to around 50M domestically, its already over 60M. Should have no trouble at all

True, but I just thought of other horror movies that has been great hits in the USA and decent hits in UK, but failed everywhere else. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made $80+ million in the USA, but less than $17 million overseas. Freddy vs. Jason also hasn't made much outside of the USA, so that's why I am worried.
