Movies with WOM like the Village don't have a team of people working on them that made a similar product with amazing WOM (and aiming for the same thing once again).

I'm not saying POTC 2 will suck, but you can't deny the possibility. Just look at how high that prediction is: $500 million. 76 million tickets sold. To use this as some kind of benchmark for success is just begging for disappointment.

It's impossible to predict right now. It could pull a Matrix Revolutions, BTTF3, or ROTK. It's too early to tell. We'll have to wait until POTC2 opens at the very earliest.

If PotC2 does well, then either PotC3 or Shrek3 will move to make sure they have separate weekends. I vaguely recall reading that this is one area where rival studios really do semi-coordinate. They may compete for a specific weekend, but they work together to try to separate the tentpoles. Everybody's movies make more $$ that way.

This could do anywhere from $150 million to $450 million. It's too unpredictable right now.
