Empire is estimating possibly a 50% drop today and a $15m-$16m Monday for Wicked.

$127M-128M 4day total if that happens. Wicked should clear $400M if Monday is at $15M+.

As a bad case scenario of a rush out film, if Wicked followed New Moon's Monday to 3day tally, it would be at $65.33M 3day (-42%). 5day tally would put it at $101M. So possibly $246M total by the end of Sunday. I feel a drop in the 30s or better is certainly possible this weekend.

The long length is likely leading to capacity issues so will certainly help this week to spread out box office grosses.

What the hell were they thinking making 2 hours and 40 minutes long? It it was just 2 hours it would be way more of a money maker.

AMC is also coming out with a singalong version in a few theaters. Wicked seems like it will pull an Encanto/Greatest Showman with lots of repeat viewings too. The total really is up in the air until we see how much of a bump it gets pre Christmas.

Charlie saying 15.5m-16m for Wicked Monday. Sounds very good.

That would be ahead of all comps. Very good. As far as I can find only Catchijg Fire dud better on its first Monday even adjusted for inflation

If Moana doesn’t hurt it too much could be in for more crazy numbers

They had a good year but in the long run Disney needs a new identity for live action movies that isn't superhero and CGI remakes, I expect them to take another arrow to the knee when they flop some movies like Mufasa/Snow White/Thunderbolts. The animation brand is incredible and isn't going anywhere.

Apparantly Wicked had a record Monday for November. Impressive. Without Moana I think drop would have been terrific but I think it'll still be good.

Hopefully studios will move away from trying to replicate Barbenheimer success. Im all for counter programming but these dats there are simply not enough films released to do this. Spacing is key to bigger openings and better legs. Wicked should have opened a week earlier and Gladiator 1-2 weeks prior.

I feel like Gladiator still benefitted here.

Totally. It's a DTV piece of shit and it just made $55 million in three days. It did absolutely amazing.

I think Gladiator would be fine releasing with either of these, but the audiences for Wicked and Moana have way too much crossover. I agree Wicked should have opened a week sooner. While ultimately Wicked and Moana will be just fine, releasing them so close together was a baffling decision.

Wicked and Moana were chasing being closer to the holidays which is probably justified. The loser will probably end up being Mufasa. Maybe Snow White coming before Mufasa would've been a good idea because it's headed for catastrophe imo while in holidays it may have at least salvaged something, plus the 19 Lion King was in summer.

How is Red One's Monday higher than last week's? People out of school already?

Tomorrow we should begin to see how Moana impacts Wicked as tonight the previews will conflict with Wickeds run.

Yes - Gladiator has a different audience though with how empty the month has been it may have had a small benefit opening earlier. Wicked and Moana have so much overlap it's plain silly to open them so close- even though long term they both will play well.

A third week over Thanksgiving would still be good for Wicked and it would still play through Christmas.

Agree on SW and Mufasa changing release dates. TLK screams summer. TLK 1994 actually moved from November 1993 to Summer 2024 and it was a game changer.

Tuesday box office is bursting at the seams. Going to be a massive week if this is any indication!

Wicked $15.8M Empire says nearly flat. DHD has $16-17M. $145.2M total.

Moana $12M previews starting at 2 pm according to CHarlie. At $60M in pre-sales for the week! Sees $180M-210M 5day. Empire has $12-13M

Gladiator $7M +25% $67.6M total. Has now outgrossed Napoleon from last year.
