If Charlie's +$5.5M Sunday estimate is correct, Moana 2 would need a 3.65X multiplier from here on out to reach $600M+. Granted, its an overinflated Thanksgiving weekend but certainly looks like we'll pull 4 films into the top 20 films domestic of all time (Wicked / Moana need to reach $535M+).

Along with Barbie/Super Mario/D&W/Inside Out 2, 6/20 of the top 20 films domestic look like they'll have come out over just the last 20 months. Inflation is clearly sizing up box office so feel like we could see an overperformer as early as 2026 take down SW. Ep. 7.

9/20 of the top 20 domestic came out within the last 3 years (TGM, Spidy, Avatar 2).

It will be 500 instead of 600, but Wicked did hit in spirit. I will be making a 2025 thread this week.

Wicked has huge potential if it doesn’t suck. Oz the great and Powerful adjusts to over 300m despite being a stinker.

I re-watched The Wizard of Oz a few weeks ago and afterwards was thinking about just how much of a footprint that movie has left on the culture, more than just about any singular film aside from like, the original Star Wars. If Wicked can tap into that, especially since its direct source material is also arguably the most successful new musical of the century, then it could totally break out on that level. At the very least, it's my pick to win the year ATM.
