I'll remain optimistic but this is some iffy news so far...

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Not sure why Nintendo is partnering with Sony 50% this time when they saw such success with Mario and Universal. Sony must have secured rights somehow but Universal's marketing and pull with families is massive.

50% chance Timothy gets cast since he ends up in everything.
Also I'm sure Chris Pratt will play an animated voice of someone..

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
'The Maze Runner' director was the best they could do? Seriously?
Maybe the suits at Nintendo just have shitty taste.
Mediocre fantasy movies tend to bomb hard. We shall see how this does.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Not sure who else they would get. Nintendo clearly wants to have their hands all over this so they were always going to select a more journeyman director.

Yeah, poor choice of director will hurt this.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Yea not in love with the producing/writing/directing team. Still trying to envision this without an inflated budget. Zelda is beloved by most videogame fans but not sure it has global appeal. Still, even half of Mario’s boxoffice gross constitutes a win (and top 2 videogame adaptation of all time)

Director doesn't matter. Who is Mario's director? I don't think anybody knows without Googling it.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Choice of director matters way more for a live-action film.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Yeah director matters more for live action. Plus Mario was fairly vanilla so could have done with someone more noteworthy.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
As a child of the 80s, if this looks halfway like The Neverending Story I am sooo in. The NeverEnding Story’s visuals/style would lend well to a Zelda live action adaptation.

Here’s what a Studio Ghibli Zelda might look like: https://youtu.be/iio_ZOS2T3s?si=jQQ2YEHMK3yfhwHj

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Weird date, I guess they’re trying to bully Sonic out of the week prior because otherwise both movies will hurt each other. Plus there’s a monster verse movie releasing the same day

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Zelda isn't that popular, and that will be reflected in its performance.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Zelda is easily the third biggest Nintendo property after Pokémon and Mario.
A Detective Pikachu performance wouldn’t shock me for this but hoping for at least Sonic 3 numbers.

This will be massive if it looks even half decent.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
I guess March/April/Easter is the go-to slot for these bigger game to movie adaptations. Have no idea what Zelda could do but something like $150-200m is possible if good.
Hard to say if live action will work or not for this.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
It should have been animated, the only way this will be massive is if the film is LOTR quality and i doubt that. Remember World of Warcraft, one of the most popular games ever but the film was mediocre so the B.O was not great. I think being animated gives you a better chance at being succesful even if the film is mediocre, just look at the Illumination films.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Yes, animated would have been better. In 25 years - very few fantasy films (if any) have captured the glory of the LOTR films. Most look cheap and hokey.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Trans Zelda eh? I guess it does fit the character if they're gonna do Ocarina, but now the coverage of this movie will become toxic and affect its box office. We shall see if it pays off.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
It would be like the Little Mermaid casting where at least they look the part but I'll believe it when I see it, there's too many international countries that would be confused by it, not to mention backlash by half of America and with Nintendo's game brand connected they probably want to play it as safe as possible. I also saw Schafer has been arrested for Palestine protesting.
