If The Avengers breaks the opening weekend record I get Serenity 2, right?

Unless Fillion wants to kill his popularity with fans that won't happen anytime soon.

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
Quote: hat a great Summer 2012 kick-off! Disney is looking at even stronger North American box office for Marvel’s The Avengers in Digital 3D, RealD and IMAX 3D than even rival studios thought. The Friday opening number now is thought to be at least $70 million — and maybe as high as $74M because late shows were coming on strong. That includes $18.1M midnights. So expect a domestic total of $160+M through Sunday for the #2 biggest ever weekend opening. Now the worldwide total is sure to be $500+M. And, just to rub it in, the well-reviewed Avengers also received an ‘A+’ CinemaScore from audiences tonight. ”Freakin’ phenomenal,” one Hollywood studio mogul phoned me tonight. ”It has a real shot at the record,” another movie boss emailed me. Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (also a 3D movie) holds both the Friday opening record of $91M and the first weekend record of $169M. I just learned that the AMC theater chain is selling so many Avengers tickets today that its entire credit card processing system is delayed so moviegoers can’t charge the pic or concession snacks right away. This, after AMC announced it made $4M from Joss Whedon’s superhero actioner overnight. Yikes! No other major pic dared go up against this juggernaut. The holdovers will only total $50M this weekend which is looking like $210M — or +33% over last year. Here’s the Top 10 (based on Friday estimates):
1. Marvel’s The Avengers (Disney) NEW [4,349 Theaters] PG13 Friday $70M, Weekend $160M
2. Think Like A Man (Screen Gems/Sony) Week 3 [2,010 Theaters] PG13 Friday $2.6M, Weekend $8.0M, Cume $76.1M
3. The Hunger Games (Lionsgate) Week 7 [2,794 Theaters] PG13 Friday $1.9M, Weekend $6.7M, Cume $381.7M
4. Pirates! Band of Misfits 3D (Aardman/Sony) Week 2 [3,358 Theaters] PG Friday $1.4M (-49%), Weekend $5.9M, Cume $19.1M
5. The Lucky One (Warner Bros) Week 3 [3,005 Theaters] PG13 Friday $1.8M, Weekend $5.5M, Cume $47.9M
6. The Five-Year Engagement (Universal) Week 2 [2,941 Theaters] R Friday $1.8M (-47%), Weekend $5.8M, Cume $19.7M
7. Safe (Lionsgate) Week 2 [2,271 Theaters] R Friday $900K (-66%), Weekend $2.7M, Cume $13.1M
8. The Raven (Relativity) Week 2 [2,209 Theaters] R Friday $950K (-62%), Weekend $2.8M, Cume $12.3M
9. Chimpanzee (Disneynature) Week 3 [1,531 Theaters] PG Friday $675K, Weekend $2.2M, Cume $22.8M
10. The Three Stooges (Fox) Week 4 [2,174 Theaters] PG Friday $575K, Weekend $1.8M, Cume $39.6M A+ Cinemascore! I think $500m is a remote possibility now.

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
Yeah that $74m means $70m WILL increase. I see it close to $73m OD now with Saturday clearing $55m and just above HP's record to Gez's predicted $173m OW.

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
Great numbers for Avengers. Looks like $160M is a lock now.
Hunger Games under 40% drop this weekend again. There is no way it won't make $400M at this point.
Box Office this year is insane. At the end of May we will have 2 400M movies already!

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
Really bad holds for the holdovers except for The Hunger Games, which is amazingly holding its own. I was expecting close to a 50% drop this weekend with the arrival of a new big blockbuster movie. Really glad it will get to 400 Million. Might be the most impressive Box Office story of the year when all is said and done.

I like it when a film meets ridiculous expectations and perhaps even more.

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
lol at box office.com forum, one of the people who gives very accurate reports says around 80 million... (its RTh)
lol I am going to hold back judgement...
thats too crazy but it appears it more like 70+++++++
not 70.
Anyways a huge success.
Its almost locked for a billion WW now.

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
With 3D prices, I could see The Hobbit getting there, but I'm not expecting it as of now. Four 400M movies in one year would be nuts.

Re: Nikkis Sure To Be Wrong Early Estimate
based on this number and WOM and lack of big films left in May till Memorial day... TA should easily cross 400 million. TA Friday numbers are coming out soon. Estimates range from 64 to 80 million..

What was the last superhero movie to get an A+ Cinemascore? That's really impressive.
