TYTYTY I love queensway, my favourite movie theatre in toronto. Just the right crowd and age for me. I hope i see it this saturday or sunday.
Yorkdale is the worst theatre i think in toronto.. everytime i go see a movie there i always tell at least one person to shut up.

Ya, I would definitely not go there to watch a film like House of Flying Daggers. Actually, after that unpleasent experience of watching ROTK there (never...again...), I wouldn't want to watch any film there
Anyways, I think this will be a good experience.

I'd say HOFD had the best hold of all foreign films this weekend, considering how much Bad Education and A Very Long Engagement in PTA with expansion.
Week 4: $668,000 -17.8% $4,024

The run so far is still not too stellar, though. Should be happy if it finishes with $15 milion (provided there will be a 1,000+ theatres expansion).

Comparing to CTHD, no, it's not very stellar. And I do feel concerned about if enough academy members get to see the film, considering the ballots are mailed out and due in two weeks. Anything fewer than two tech nods will be a disappointment for me. However, this hasn't been a good year box office wise for the foreign films, especially the December releases, so I'll be happy if it can finish with $15M total. I just hope this doesn't affect its original expansion plan.

To be honest, it could have done better. I mean, they should have just gone for a wide releease right away. A good marketing campaign involving a "From the makers of Hero" and a 1,500+ theatres release would have given it a $10 million openng I think and a $20+ million total.

Look like SPC is indeed slowing down its expansion plan. That's too bad. The best one can hope now is that it can grab 4-5 oscar nominations and allow SPC to expand more.

Hopefully it will increase more, especially if nominated for the big awards. It's doing great with the BAFTAs

The IMDb score has risen to 7.4 from the 7.2 when I checked a few months ago. It is far lower than CTHD or Hero, but that's because it started out really low after getting bashed back home in China.

Interesting that FilmJerk is reporting that HOFD will expand to 1500+ locations this weekend.

EDIT: OK, BOM is indicating the same.

I think House of Flying Daggers will maintain a PTA of $3,000 and get $4,500,000 this weekend.

I hope it can get over 4 million. The movie deserves it and also if it does really well i can hopefully see more of these types of films in the big screen in Canada

So, it really going into over 1500 theaters?
I hope it can get at least 3m.
As to what Arthur said, I agree. They should have gone wide right away and given it a better marketing campaign. Had it really been done right, I think it in fact could have grabbed more then 15m, maybe 20m opening weekend.

Yeah they would've done very well if they opened wide. It's very romeo and juliet-ish in story. I liked it a lot.

It's out now, in Germany, so I can hopefully see it soon. It opened at the 9th spot of the box-office in 157 theatres (rather semi-limited start, normally movies open with 300+) with 85.543 admissions in its first weekend which is below Hero, but still decent.
I hope it can make $4+ million over the weekend in the USA. With the upcoming expansion it actually has a shot at $20+ million in the USA.

According to BOM, $63,400,000. By comparison, Hero made $122,500,000 internationally, while CTHD made $85,446,864. HOFD made about half of what Hero made in China as well as internationally, and if it can do the same in the states, I'll be very happy, although it will probably fall short.
BOM changed the estimate to 1200+. I hope it won't drop again on Thursday. Need some screen/theater confirmation from folks.

I checked AMC theaters around the country, and HOFD is definitely adding more theaters, although it is mostly on 1 screen and has 4 showings.
For Zing's Info, it will be shown at AMC Franklin Mills Mall in Philadelphia.
