 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
90s was a different time in animation. Unless you were Disney you didn't get $100m+ movies. Amd also B&B is an adult movie. Not geared toward kids. Algren put things into perspective. Not just pure number game.

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
I wouldn't go that far, B&B was definitely a shock. And it's animation budget wouldn't inflate like other films. I mean it's in the leagues of say robot chicken or team America.
I wonder if a Ren and Stimpy film would have done well.

It was actually the 10th highest grossing animated movie ever back then and only 2nd non Disney movie in the top 10. All things considered it was an impressive performance.

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
lol. When "mega-hits" such as An American Tail and The Land Before Time are inside the Top 12, you know the list is useless. The amount of animated films back then was laughable. Now we're inundated with them, and Butthead sits at #117. That's the real result. Check the adjusted animated list. It comes in at #97, lol. For a film to a series that spawned 8 series, it ain't great. And I am not saying it did SHIT. I am just saying that it isn't that impressive. It opened above expectations, and finished well relative to its budget...as many movies do. There's nothing there for me to be impressed with.

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
It was a hit for many of the reasons stated above. But yes it wasn't a huge hit outside of its OW.
Very few non Disney animated films were big hits back then. The most comparable was Space Jam released a month earlier. It had a lot more hype (Michael Jordan in his prime) and did well at the box office (though fell short of 100m which I thought was a little disappointing at the time). This came in a fair bit lower than that but was more of a adult show so BO expectations were far lower.

Which even more proves the point - unless you were Disney you had nothing to look for with animation in theaters basically.

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
Well it's also adult aimed animation. It paved the way for South Park, even the Simpsons movie and even this years Sausage Party. It's overall success is more important than what it adjusts to, which I'd say isn't much but I doubt it would make 20 million today.

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
I find it funny that the Matrix Reloaded total adjusted gross is 400 million, but at the time was viewed as a dud with mixed WOM. However, Civil War will finish very similarly, but this is viewed as a hit with good WOM. Perspective.

Correction. Quality of film. I don't see Infinity War dropping to 150 million total.

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
Irrespective of what it adjusts to now, Matrix Reloaded was definitely expected to surpass $300 million and win the summer at the time of its release. It did neither (although Nemo's enormous breakout means it could have done the former and still missed the latter).

 Re: Holy adjusted gross shit!
Meanwhile Hulk, despite adjusting to nearly 90 million opening, still can't hit 190 million. Absolutely Pathetic. Godzilla's 5-day 135 million, finishes to 249 million.
