Oklahoma! (1955)
Oklahoma! was the first of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical collaborations, and it changed the face of musical theater. Breaking from both traditional musical comedies and Gilbert & Sullivan style operettas  in which show-stopping production numbers and comedy came first and character and story were secondary  Oklahoma! for the first time placed lyrics and dance at the service of character and story development. With this inversion, Rodgers & Hammerstein created a distinctively modern dramatic form, the musical play. The humor, catchy now-famous songs, and perfect casting make this film adaptations one of the most enjoyable screen musicals of all time.
1955 New York Times Review
http://www.in70mm.com/newsletter/1995/4 ... review.htm
Photographed and projected in the new process known as Todd-AO, which reflects the images in color from a wide and deep Cinerama-like screen, the ever-popular operetta was presented before an invited audience at the Rivoli last night. It will be shown at two more invitation "premieres" tonight and tomorrow night. Then it begins its two-a-day public showings on Thursday at the Rivoli.
1955 Hollywood Reporter Article
http://www.in70mm.com/newsletter/1995/4 ... review.htm
"Oklahoma!" cost around $ 6.000.000. With the financing of the system, the Magna Corp. has around $ 11.000.000 total in this initial film, but it now looks like a small investment in comparison to the likely huge return "Okla." will bring.

Sorry. My mistake. You had me confused (by the comments only). Seeing The Phantom of the Opera 100 times would not make you gay. I liked The Hours. Does that make me gay (as it is a chick-flick)?

I guess I would have prefered her over Zach Braff though. I would vote Emmy Rossum over Emily Browning and Bryce Dallas Howard anyday - even Dakota Fanning are more deserving than both of these......Zach Braff and Freddie Highmore i can't speak for because i haven't seen their movies... I guess if it came down to Emmy Rossum or Emily Browning, I would pick Rossum. But if it was between Rossum and Dallas-Howard, then my choice would be Dallas-Howard by a landslide. She deserved a Best Actress Acadamy Award Nomination.
And how did you come to this? I didn't find Dallas Howard's performance particularly engaging or outstanding.....the sort of performance you normally get from these suspence/horror movies....

I think the emotion she put into it was incredible. She played a blind person fantastic. I was completely engaged by her performance throughout the movie (I would almost say it was the best part of the film).

The best song of hte movie is the point of no return IMO. Such a good song. And the guy who played the phantom was perfect for that song.

The one with the fantastic violin solo? I like that too.
By the way, you misspelled "the" but I fixed it for you.

No need for bashing Algren... (even though the fighting in threads is very annoying) What does liking Catwoman have to do with being gay? The whole stereotype as a whole is annoying though, and I get easily offended, excuse me.

It just didn't stand out for me, i can appreciate the fact that she's playing a blind character but the emotional range which she displayed were rather limited.....

Oh yes, I love Point of No Return too. I have an odd love for Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again/Wandering Child, I've repeated those 2 tracks so much.

I just thought she was better then Rossum. As far as emotional depth in The Phantom, Rossum was excellent, but she still wasn't perfect. Not to say the Dallas-Howard was, but I'd say she was definately better.
