Steve is on crack if he thinks Mufasa is coming anywhere near 400, let alone 500 million.
An increase from the Lion King 2019? lol.

Joker 2 was in contention with these other big players. This is probably the biggest disappointment of the 2020s IMO and definitely top 3 of the post 2000 box office. So horrendously bad.

I was thinking about making a "Mufasa will match Alice in Wonderland's % drop" club, but that would only be 125.3 milliion. Would be crazy... or after Joker 2, is it?

Well we’ve likely seen the highest and lowest of these 4 movies already. Moana 2 and Mufasa will fall between Joker 2’s $60m and D&W’s $636m.
My vibe check of Mufasa has dropped a lot, feels like Disney isn’t doing any meaningful marketing for this movie… or perhaps it’s feeling dead because no one wanted a sequel anyway. Still has a chance to do pretty well with Christmas / holidays. Maybe $300m if things go well. Or could pull a Joker 2 and do $125m, who knows!

I think if it does underperform it will still leg out to something like $180-$200m just due to being Christmas. Though it probably will get to $300m. Would love Sonic to beat it though.

I know Im not the target audience, but this is so hard to fathom. WTF.
And yes - $200m 5-day could still end up with a sub $500m gross domestic but still. Pretty insane.

Re: Biggest of Moana 2, Deadpool 3, Joker 2 and Mufasa
Moana is the most viewed movie of the last 5 years. Really seems to have a massive fanbase. Also had more trailer views in 24 hours than Inside Out 2 reported in May. Pretty remarkable for a movie that was slotted to hit streaming only.
Makes me think Encanto 2 and Turning Red 2 are going to be massive events as well.

I’m not in the demo either but I also find it hard to fathom (in theory) because I haven’t seen any marketing for it. I’ve seen one trailer in theaters, but very little on TV or online. For people who know, has all the marketing been on D+? Or does the big push start on Friday once we’re through Wicked (it seems hilarious now to think a lot of us thought this would bomb)? Or does Disney even have to market it? (doesn’t seem like it if those presales are true). Will they ever start marketing Mufasa?

I have the same feeling with Snow White. The trailer never showed up on any of my feeds, which is unusual. It feels very much like it's being marketed like a Disney+ project.
