 Re: Beetlejuice 2
It's so funny how Beetlejuice actually only has like 15 mins of screentime in the first one
Maybe that plays in this film's favour, for the fans of the original there's a lot of pent up anticipation to see more of the character, and there's also loads of new places they could take him because he did so relatively little in the first movie (despite feeling like a huge presence because he's so over the top)

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
So Empire mentioned I think on one of his posts that early sales are very encouraging for this and even mentioned IT. Would be something to see Beetlejuice pull off a big surprise OW.

3rd highest September opening could be in reach ahead of Shang Chi behind both It movies.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
Presales are very good. Definitely hitting 10m+ previews and OW around Dune 2/ Zilla/Twisters range. Anything higher needs strong push in final 2 weeks along with strong reviews/reactions. Let us wait and see.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
Seems like an $80m-ish opener which is always welcome in September!

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
The Ortega casting was brilliant and will keep this from only attracting a nostalgia-crowd like the new Ghostbusters. A perfect way to connect the past and present.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
DHD reports $65M-80M now.
The movie is attractive with women; over 25 first, then under 25 next. One industry source is seeing it higher than DM4.
Seems like this is becoming a cross demo hit. So many of the mega breakouts this summer were led by Latino/Hispanic audiences so feels like Ortega will certainly help.
If it gets past Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) could be #3 on Burton's all time box office list (behind Alice 1 and Batman 1).

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
This could really launch Ortega, it seems like she'd be half the reason this hit.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
So Glen and Ortega could both have $200M+ films this year.
Acorns is a JJ Abrams sci fi thriller in development that will star the two of them as a married couple.
Given their cross demo appeal, if this is legit a quality film could do massively well. Not a Titanic or anything but I can't recall a buzz worthy pairing like that in a while. Though it didn't work out for Passengers so there's always a risk.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
I can see this hit 12m thursday only and around 2.5m for early shows. I think that puts 100m OW at play if final week surge is strong. Presales this far out is really impressive. May be this will see keaton walkups :-)

I don't feel a lot of chemistry there tbh. Chris Pratt and JLaw seemed better matched. If anything I feel the pairing might be a bit controversial.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
This year should be the turning point where September becomes a box office month. With August already being the summer movie dump month and the last two weeks usually being bad, it opens the door for anticipated movies in September.

 Re: Beetlejuice 2
Even my parents want to see it in theatres, i remember when they took me to see the first one in 1988. With old fans and a young audience that Ortega can bring in we might be seeing a perfect storm. Hopefully the film is good so it can have legs.
