Re: The Mummy predictions Unfortunately this is not positioned well. It is coming a week after Wonder Woman where proud critics have been forced to praise mediocrity in the name of feminism. So with The Mummy (a film coincidentally not about feminism), they will let rip all of their bottled up hatred for their own limp backbones.

The marketing is not good. But it isn't confused, in my opinion. It's just kind of meh.

Re: The Mummy predictions You just explained why the marketing is confusing. They're not selling the movie as part/reboot of The Mummy franchise that has been alive for decades and people now it. They're selling it as a Tom Cruise movie that's some kind of Indiana Jones ripoff.

Re: The Mummy predictions I agree with Algren. The marketing is clear - it's the Mummy updated and set in the present day.
(Personally, I enjoy retro settings, but any grumblings I've overheard about Wonder Woman are about its historical setting. It worked back in the 80's with Indiana Jones, but the kidz these days don't seem to grasp retro.)

From what I understand they are trying to create a Dark Universe and having a big name like Tom Cruise continue will be more useful than the current female Mummy. So I believe its a title where they are referring to both being The Mummy in the end. The last two trailer pretty much confirms this.

Re: The Mummy predictions I don't think the very first trailer hinted that but the last two trailers are pretty much selling TC as Mummy vs Mummy. But also the part where Crowe says "You were cursed" can be taken as a hint, specially when he comes back to life
