Well, I suppose, after thinking long and hard about it, that a $178m budgeted sci-fi actioner with another $100m spent on marketing is definitely worthy of a WWW thread when it just opens to $29m domestically. But then, its overseas grosses are actually fine, so.... it just depends what it finishes with. Let's wait and see

But do we ask what went wrong with Jonah Hex or RIPD? No, because the expectations are so low going into the movie.

In other words, everyone already knows WWW before the movie is released. Edge, unlike the others, has a small chance to redeem itself, surpass those expectations, it'll still be a financial disappointment, but it would have outdone the negative nancy predictions from the site, the media and the industry and that'd be a win.

I'm sure it will be making WB a lot more money in the future, because it is a good movie. Yes, there are some exceptions, but all you have to do is look at what continues to be worth $ on home video. No one remembers all the average stuff. Years and years pass and more and more films fall through the cracks. This has a fighting chance of survival wherein movies like After Earth and Elysium do not.

Sometimes people forget the average stuff, but sometimes people raised them to a venerated status.

Nothing went wrong. If it has good legs and reaches 100 Million domestically you really couldn't expect more from it.

WB just isn't having a great year with sci-fi.

With the enormous expansion of the international marketplace nowadays, barely anything bombs really hard nowadays, so whenever there is a What Went Wrong thread, I always assume this pertains specifically to the domestic performance.

The effects are pretty awesome, though. But yeah, the budget was just too big.

I don't think this will make back its money from just theatrical run still don't think anything except the budget went wrong here. Plus they should have taken the example of Oblivion and gone below or just equal to its budget ($120m).

it's not making 100m. Too much competition.

The Edge of Tomorrow dvd release made small headlines for essentially renaming the film as "Live Die Repeat (Edge of Tomorrow is only seen in small letters on the bottom of the case). Would a name change like this have helped the film's box office?

Nothing went wrong, it made exactly what it was suppose to. Just 20 million less in the US, and 20 million more OS.

Nothing went wrong. This will be Cruise's first non-sequel $100 m + film in 9 years. So I count it as a win.

I don't understand what the issue is with the title? Edge of Tomorrow isn't a bad title.

Anyway, I'm sick of everyone saying this bombed. It will get to 100 Million. I know it had a big budget but that's what overseas grosses are for. The movie was awesome and the best of the summer's big budget blockbusters, IMO. It absolutely deserved to be bigger but its gross is fine. Now, the DVD/Blu-ray artwork is NOT fine. Warner Bros, change this crap! Don't confuse people.

Here's hoping some store offers a steelbook with Emily Blunt that says "Full Metal B*tch" on it. Was seriously hoping the Blu-ray would be called "Full Metal B*tch Edition" in the first place but that would be too good to be true.

It only bombed in comparison to its budget. For what it was, it probably should've done a little more. But I'm pleased with it where it's at.
