Competition for AMITYVILLE horror:
The only movie that will make over $10M is Sahara. And it's not competition by genre.
Making under $10M next weekend:
Sin City
Fever Pitch
Under $5M:
Guess Who
Beautyshop
Under $3M:
Robots
Miss Congeniality
Under $2M:
The Pacifier
The Ring Two
Upside of Anger
The only Horror competition will be making just over $1,000,000 next weekend.
1. The Amityville Horror- $24,000,000.
2. Sahara- $11,000,000.
3. Sin City- $8,000,000.
4. Fever Pitch- $7,500,000.
5. Guess Who- $5,500,000.
An $8,000 pta on 3,000 screens get AMITYVILLE $24M.

The Amityville Horror is 1 of the Most Legendary Pieces of Real Estate in the World and PEOPLE magazine this week has a "Where are they Now" section featuring George and Kathy Lutz and there story as to what happened and I believe them.. This family experienced something terrible in this house, but Hollywood decided to add more to it at their convenience separating Fact from Fiction.. We've had 3 pieces of stagnant PG-13 Horror shit in the last 3 months and folks are waiting for a Goddamn really good Horror move and THIS IS IT.. I'm telling ya: Your all heavily underestimating this because of the Rating which isn't going to mean shit.. I proved all of you wrong with The RING II and I'm sure gonna have Lightening strike twice with this.. Believe it..
Opening weekend: I say close to 50 Million, however, I'm never one to go by the exact number so I'll give or take 1-2 Million on the weekend box office in hit or miss ratio.. It's going to make alot of $$$ and the new owners of the house in Amityville in PEOPLE Magazine this week said they are not looking forward to this and the amount of tourism there gonna receive cause of this.... They have over 300 people visiting and stopping and gawking at their home everyday to the point where they've had to hire Private Security at night cause of folks attempting to break in or knock on the front door in the hopes the new opwners will answer so they can see inside.. It's gonna be BIG..

Still predicting $29 million, an excellent opening for an R-rated horror film. I can't see it doing $50 million, mainly since only a few R-rated films (8 MILE, HANNIBAL, THE MATRIX RELOADED, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, etc.) have been able to do that and I don't sense nearly the same amount of hype that those films had.

Early predictions:
1. The Amityville Horror 30 million
2. Sahara 12 million
3. Sin City 8.65 million
4. Fever Pitch 7.8 million
One opener only and not as good of weather should help decreases from holdovers.

Amityville should have bad legs like most horrors.

Heh. BKB, I'm willing to contend that The Amityville Horror could/will outgross The Ring Two. However, $50M is out of the question. The film is rated R, which will prevent it from making that much.
$35M should be the absolute limit here, and it most likely won't even get that much.
Anyway, I'm going with $28M.

Here is an interesting story, there is a huge debate with my senior managers on what the opening weekend gross will be.
My Manager Director (who is female) says that it will open in the high 20's because it is a one movie marketplace and it could perform like the Texas Chainsay Massacre.
But the other Senior Manager (who is male) says that it will only do only low 20's because of people might be getting sick of horror movies. Isn't it great to work with two managers who know alot about business and get interested in stats?
Anyway, I am on my MD's side on this one.

Currently I don't see it opening lower than 25M or higher than 32M. $28M is my prediction.

*****MY PREDICTIONS*****
1. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR - 29 MILLION 2. SAHARA - 11.6 MILLION 3. SIN CITY - 8.5 MILLION 4. FEVER PITCH - 8.1 MILLION 5. GUESS WHO - 4.1 MILLION 6. BEAUTY SHOP - 3.9 MILLION 7. ROBOTS - 2.8 MILLION 8. MISS CONGENIALITY 2 - 2.3 MILLION 9. THE PACIFIER - 1.9 MILLION 10. THE UPSIDE OF ANGER - 1.6 MILLION 11. THE RING 2 - 1.6 MILLION
AMITYVILLE will AT LEAST make 24 Million for sure! I don't see it doing more than 30 Million though.

For me a lot of it also depends on whether the reviews praise it or if they say it's just another lame horror flick lacking in scares, I think that it could make the differnece between 25 and 30 million.

Well, 35 Million should not be the limit as folks around here just don't quite grasp just how popular this is.. I'm sticking to my guns on this without having to repeat the same shit over and over and say this has a very good chance at grossing what I predicted and R-Rated shouldn't mean squat if it's that good..

Na man, I got this one. BKB, I'll tell ya what. Ya beat me with The Ring Two, but now I'm ready to move on. So how about we make the same prediction we did for The Ring Two's opening weekend? If it makes less then 40 million, I make you change your signature until Star Wars: Episode Three comes out. If it makes 40-45 million, neither of us gets anything, and if it does more then 45 million I'll keep my BKB thing in the sig and add whatever else ya want until May 19th when Star Wars comes out. Deal man?

The Amityville Horror $29.0
It could very well hit $30 million or $35 million even, but if TCM couldn't do it I don't think this can.

That's fine, but I also have some bets with others as well that need to be honored if I lose from aheead of time.. I think it would be in someone's very best interest to compile a list of who's betting and who isn't so we don't get confused and in order as well so no one is being left out.... Those who want to throw there hats in the ring for this bet that I say can gross close to 50 Million(give or take 1-2 Million as I always do) then step up to the plate.. It's strictly a signature changing bet folks.. No more, no less, but this movie is gonna kick ass this weekend more than you think..

I really don't think $50M is out of reach for Amityville. It actually looks good, unlike most other horror movies this year. Unless it gets the STAY AWAY negative buzz that the Ring Two got, I don't see why it can't make BKBs prediction. Last time I can remember a movie opening by itself on a real weekend (not in January) was 8 Mile (also rated R). However, $35M seems the most reasonable here due to the recent crop of crappy horrors.

Hey, BKB, I found it.
BKB_The_Man wrote: Zingaling wrote: BKB, I'm definently in on this bet. If The Amityville Horror makes $50 million opening weekend, I will do what you asked, which is to post at Rotten Tomatoes for one week, any thread or post you wanted posted. BUT, if The Amityville Horrror fails to reach $50 million on opening weekend, you have to not only change your signature to "I got PWNED by a stupid teenager over predicting a stupid PG-13 teen horror movie. The Ring Two owns!". This must be in regular (12 pt) font, and bold writing. AND, if if makes under $50 million, you have to stop writing in bold font for a week. Just regular writing like the rest of us. One week. Why did I add this? For one, I don't want our bet to be the exact same as everyone. And, since I'm willing to sacrifice my week to post things for you in other places, this seems to be fair that you actually match my side by doing something other than putting something in your signature.
If you're willing to accept, then game on. It's a bet.. =D>
