=D> I agree, much less opening weekend.. There's more interest in this movie than some might think.. By the way, if you haven't purchased the Amityville Box Set, I suggest doing so, if for anything, the Documentaries on the History of this House and the folks involved plus you get a free ticket to the movie on April 15th.. It really is worth it, but I tossed my ticket away and will simply pay full adult evening price for this which is Rare for me to do unless it's really worth it and it will be..

I still say AMITYVILLE HORROR has 0% chance of opening over $35M
And i still say it cannot break $30M.
I think more around $23M-$27M.
Still a fantastic opening....seen the trailer last night with THE RING TWO. Was still cool.

I guess were gonna find out in 9 days.. I would be very disappointed, almost shocked if this movie didn't open up anywhere near as close as I'm predicting, especially when the last 3 PG-13 Horror movies have sucked major donkey... It has everything going for it and is quite well known... I really don't understand why everyone here is downplaying this so much.. The R-Rating isn't gonna mean shit and if some teen wants to see it, they will, unless some theatres are overly anal about the whole "No one under 17 Admitted without Parent" which is just bullshit... I can imagine someone like Moviedude who's 16 trying to purchase a ticket to this ans them turning him away because he's 1 year off.. You know what I'm saying?? That would be simply appalling.. Do they do that shit over in the U.K or what???

Nah they don't really bother.
However, the 12-15 year olds arent' gonna pass for over 18.
But we don't know AMITYVILLE's rating yet, however i guess it will be 18. If it's gory.
A look at some "18" rated Horror movies In dollars....
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake: $7,481,400
Freddy vs Jason: $5,215,385
Wrong Turn: $2,996,675
Ghost Ship: $4,070,247
Dawn of the Dead: $10,611,883
28 Days Later $11,919,836
Scream 3 $11,509,790
Saw: $13,071,202
Scream $15,936,692
Scream 2 $15,799,630
Sleepy Hollow $19,181,955
Seven $37,236,963
The Most comparable however are:
TEXAS CHAINSAW
DAWN OF THE DEAD
Because they are both high profile event horror movies, and ofcourse gory remakes.
They were also both hit movies in the UK, however Horrors rated 15 usually do alot better
(Sixth Sense $49,231,882, Signs $31,013,787, Blair Witch Project $28,674,762, The Others $22,680,569, What Lies Beneath $25,826,084, Final Destination $19,829,096, The Village: $19,703,372, The Ring: $18,491,316)

Yeah its a really cheap movie ( you can just tell from the trailer ) Hell TCM only cost 9.5mil. Its a hit if it hits 40mil+

Now I finally saw this low budget trailer for this movie you all keep going on and on about called HIGH TENSION, and all I can say is this looks like a total TCM Rehash combined with Friday the 13th and I suppose there's nothing wrong with that I guess, but Best Horror movie of 2005?? I highly doubt it and looks like a straight to DVD movie if anything....

The Amityville Horror is estimated to open in 3,200+ theaters, by the way. That's awesome.

Here's an interview with Melissa George who plays the Late Kathy Lutz in the Upcoming Amityville Horror, however, it's interesting to see that MOVIEHOLE.NET is reporting this film to open up on April 14th which is a Thursday and not April 15th as stated.. Hmmm.. A Thursday opening huh??? If this is true, then I change my prediction from a 50 Million weekend to 60 Million if it opens up in Thursday, but only if that's true.. It may just be an error on their part but will see.. I hope it does open on Thursday so I can see this multiple times.. \:D/

Crack kills brain cells?? So does thinking BATMAN BEGINS will be the Second Coming and outdo SPIDERMAN like alot of folks including yourself believe.. Provided if this is true about an April 14th release on Thursday, I'd say MGM is very confident in this movie and I can't really say I blame them cause it looks great and folks are starving for a damn good horror that's NOT PG-13.. Now, I said a few posts back that I do think I've overpredicted for this movie and have no problem changing my signature and admitting I was wrong if I am wrong, but I'll stick to my guns to the bitter end like I did with The RING II and maybe, just MAYBE, Lightening could strike twice.. Fair enough?? Oh and 1 more thing: What makes you think BATMAN BEGINS is gonna open to 60 Million for the weekend when The RING II coukldn't even gross 70 Million like many of fanboys predicted??? It was supposed to be so Uber Popular, but look what it made in it's 1st weekend?? 36 Million and that's a far cry from the predictions that were floating around for The RING II at 60-70 Million plus?? Putting aside the fanbase for BATMAN BEGINS, to the rest of the casual audience, it's the 5th damn movie in the franchise coming off of 2 piss poor one's that won't be forgotten anytime soon by them, including myself..
