To date, the biggest opening horror film is probably The Grudge with $38 million...I think Ring 2 can do better than that, but more like $45 million (and then be #1 over Easter as well).
I have little to no confidence in Ice Princess making more than $10 million...I'd say maybe $9 million.
Heh, you just wait.

No, horror's biggest opening is either Hannibal with $58 million over Signs (if you consider that horror) with $60 million.

Signs is definently considered horror, though it wasn't the least bit scary.
Oh, and Shades, you'll see on Saturday.

Heh. Maybe I'm wrong, but you guys sure so seem to forget the THOUSANDS of other shitty flop horror films that made ten dollars in their opening weekend. But, you know, every week the horror flick comming out is an "event". And every week, the movie sucks. And flops. But then it happens all over again. Now, I think the ring will do just fine. I think it will do a nice little 30m. But you guys have some seriously inflated predictions. Whew. Oh, and the Ring Two won't make 70m dollars. Come on, stop talking like a crazy person. Sorry, but I think $30 million is literally ridiculous considering The Grudge made $39 million.

And I think anything more is rediculous considering that Cursed made like 5 dollars, when you and your horror buddies hailed it as the next big thing.
Sorry, but those stupid trailers with the girl cutting circles in people really annoy most people. I don't know where your 70 million dollar audiance is, but whatever. I would be very shocked if it made over 40. I still stand at 30-32.

I think most people could smell a dog like Cursed coming from a mile away. I mean, I always knew it wouldn't do well. However, The Ring Two didn't even need an effective trailer to open in a big way. The Ring was (and still is) an insanely popular movie, and I think people are forgetting that. A movie doesn't open to $15M and finish with $130M unless it has some serious word-of-mouth.

I understand. I think it's a great movie, too. But I just don't get it. Why would this thing make 70 million dollars in three days? I think an opening over 30 million is great for a horror sequel. Maybe I'm just out of touch. This isn't some lame anti-horror vandetta. I'm not out to piss on horror fans. Sorry, I guess I don't see the hype.

Yes, because a teen werewolf movie like Cursed is a better comparison than another Japanese remake like The Grudge (and The Ring was). The Grudge was literally a clone of The Ring, and it broke out with $39 million. The Ring opened to $15 million, and went on to make $125 million in theaters, another $100 million internationally, $60+ million in rentals, and lots of money on DVD purchases.

You do that. We have enough flamers running around...we don't want you to join their ranks.

I just saw some figures the other day and The Ring sold over 5 million DVDs last year alone.

And apparently I don't get it either. Ooooover my head. Well, Zing, sorry to sound like a flammer. Like I said, I don't hate horror movies or fans. Maybe I always flame your horror threads when I'm in a bad mood, heh. I guess we will see who's right next week. Who know's, we'll probably settle at a happy medium of about a 45m opener.

I actually agree with you Zach to some degree. I think it will do better then $30 million, but I don't see it passing $50 million for the weekend by any chance.

No, we were commenting on our agreement that The Grudge was just a clone of The Ring, and surprised that Zingaling said that since he seems to be a fan of The Grudge (unlike me).

I think this must be the biggest predicting weekend thread by its first 12 hours.
(yes there are bigger ones, but look how many replies there are already!)
