Zingy, do you have a fake ID? I'm wondering how you see the R-rated flicks you do, because I know you're only 16 (I believe!). Heh.

I know you weren't talking to me, but here's another advice. Let your parent or guardian buy one or more adult tickets (only if he/she is 17+) and give you a ticket before he/she leaves you temporarily at the theaters, so you go through the door manager who makes sure you look mature enough to watch a movie. That is what happened when my mom or my brother bought one ticket each for me to watch PASSION OF CHRIST, LOVE ACTUALLY, and MATRIX 3.

That doesn't work for me. At Tigard Cinemas, the closest theater to me, they check your ID at the door. So me and my friends have an easy way of adding a fake name and birth of date on the top of our cards. We just tested it out until we got the right size and font, cut it out to fit exactly (below it it's green so you can't see the difference, especially when it's in a see through plastic wallet window thing), and stick it on with doublesided tape. Afterwards, we throw them away so we can use our school IDs for other stuff without there being any questions. Works like a charm, just started using it. We've gotten 14 year olds in before!

Anyway, I just saw the 7:35 show of Hostage at the Tigard Cinemas 10. It was on the second biggest screen (Robots got the first biggest and the other second biggest), and it SOLD OUT! Definitely surprised about that. The trailers were:

Sahara
The Interpreter
Kingdom of Heaven
The above three trailers I've seen before literally almost EVERY single movie I've seen that wasn't aimed at little kids. Maybe the managers just love them, but if it's the same anywhere else, I'd expect all three of those to do well.
Mindhunters (Guess Miramax is releasing this along with everyone else, FINALLY!)
Sin City (Great reaction, tons of chatter afterwards)

It was funny actually, when the movie started the opening credits were with everything in black and white except for the red sky and a few other exceptions, and I swear everyone thought that we had walked into Sin City by mistake. After the incredibly cool credits (which definitely helped me figure out that the director had directed the Splinter Cell games by the way it was designed), the movie went back to normal, and I gotta say, I was really impressed. I know I spoke really well of Assault on Precinct 13 (B+) but this outdoes that movie in every way. Not only is it incredibly suspenseful, but the action, while not non-stop, is incredibly well made, as is the rest of the movie. Not only is there a stunningly high amount of character development for Bruce Willis, in his best performance since The Sixth Sense easy, but the entire movie was very well filmed. The cinematography and editing were extremely confident, and though the film was a bit over-climactic at the end, the film was extremely well done. Though it was very violent and gory, the crowd also definitely liked it. When the credits rolled there was a brief round of applause, and I heard nothing but good things while walking out of the movie. It might have just performed so well because the main newspaper gave it an A-, but I think that the word of mouth will be excellent on this one, and judging by the crowd, a lot of it will be among older audiences. I'm not saying it'll go past a 3.0 multiplier, but I do think it'll have very good legs for an action movie. Overall, I might just barely give this one an A-, but I'm almost leaning towards an A. I'd definitely suggest it to anyone who wants to see not only a hardcore action movie, but someone looking for a very good drama that's primarily a movie about a character's redemption.

Saw a 4:30 showing of Robots. About 90% full in a 600-seater. Trailers for Star Wars (I love it), Kicking & Screaming, Zathura, and... that's all? Can't remember. I wasn't expecting anything great from the film, though, and I certainly didn't get anything great, but the audience seemed to enjoy it. The kids were happy.

Hostage
AMC Marple 10
12:15am, 300 seats, 75% full (a lot more than I expected)

Trailers
Kingdom of Heaven
Sin City
Mindhunters
Sahara

Hostage was a good action flick. It's not great, but it was certainly good. There's many things I liked about Hostage. First of all, it's suspensful. It's also quite action-packed, though the trailer doesn't make it seem that way. Lots of gun shootings, blood flying, and dead cops. The acting is better than I could have expected. I was impressed with Bruce Willis. There's also a few things I did not like about Hostage. The initiating incident in the movie was kind of stupid. Three random teenagers decide to steal the car of a rich girl who gave them the finger. There's also a lot of things done by one of the people holding the kids hostage, and a lot wasn't explained. The character was basically a freak and relatively quiet during the entire movie. Overall, it's a good action movie. I'd recommend it. I didn't like it as much as Assault on Precinct 13, but it's worthy of a viewing from action fans. B-

I'm not sure which I'm more surprised about...that Hostage actually got some business on Friday night...or that your Dad takes you to movies at 12:15 AM on a Friday night. :)

As far as the R thing..I think it's pretty ridiculous for theatres to make a big deal about keeping out older teens (like 15-16) when most of the stuff in those movies they can see in R-Rated movies (and worse) they can just see by turning on HBO any Sunday night at 8pm. I think it's time to create a new age-dependent rating system because the current one really doesn't cater to how mature kids are now compared to 10 or 15 years ago.

Robots 7:00pm showing on friday,It was about 50% full in a 500 seater.
The movie was very enjoyable imo, there is no better looking CGI animated film than this one,the visuals are impressive as hell,i would see it again if it came to Imax.
Trailers in order:
Sin City:Great response and before any of you ask why this kind of trailer is shown at a kids film i have to say that in P.R they show any kind of trailers in any kind of film.

Ice Princess:No reaction at all, looks like disney teen fluff.

The Ring 2:I was suprised this got no reaction.

SW:ROTS:Oh how great is to see this trailer on the big screen, everyone went absolutly quite when the lucas logo came on and after the trailer ended it got a great response.

When I go with my dad to the movies, 80% of the time... it's at midnight.

I didn't put any reactions because the audience was relatively quiet (except a few loud teenagers who kept hitting each other).

awesome \:D/ I like the new song that they have in the begining of the trailer, its pretty damn awesome. As for the trailer, its awesome makes my top 5 faves (The Matrix Reloaded has the best trailer of all time IMO).

I found the Reloaded trailer funny. This was back in a period when I was hating The Matrix series (partially due to overhype; mostly due to Joel Silver comments), and the Reloaded trailer screened before a movie -- it's a trailer that begins with the slo-mo, ten minute Trinity fall. The crowd cheered to all hell when it began, but after it was over, there was chatter... and it sounded really nervous like "That's not what I was expecting... eh..."

Anyway, back on topic :)

Since im in the UK, BOOGEYMAN only opened last weekend (it's Currently Number 1)

Trailers:
XXX2- Someone said "that looks shite", right in front of me, lol.
The Amityville Horror - Got lots of gasps, cinema rumbled with the bass during this trailer!
The Ring Two- Whispering
Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy- No Reaction

So yeah, weird Mix.

Anyways. I enjoyed BOOGEYMAN for what it was. A by the numbers, loud noises scare you horror film. Like the GRUDGE was.
The crowd seemed to enjoy it too, jumping and some girls screaming at the jumpy parts.

Enjoyable, if generic.

Amityville and The Ring are going to kick ass over here. Judging by these reactions, and people talking about them.

Also, AMITYVILLE has apparantly been given a 15 Rating.
So, it can't be as violent as TCM was as that was an 18. TCM still managed to gross £4,000,000 With an 18. So AMITYVILLE should do like £5,000,000-£6,000,000 with the 15.

Be Cool
2:35 show, 250-seat auditorium, about half full.

Trailers
A Lot Like Love (nada)
The Interpreter (silence)
Beauty Shop (laughs)
The Amityville Horror (silence)
Sahara (silence)
Fever Pitch (laughing)

I had fun watching Be Cool. It has moments when it doesn't quite get there and actually work, but it at least tries, which says something for a sequel. Given the presence of Uma Thurman's Edie as a love interest for John Travolta, you would think director F. Gary Gray might be trying to remind viewers of Pulp Fiction, something (aside from a "sensual" dance sequence) that Be Cool fails to do. Travolta and Thurman are both solid, but each have been far better before. Much of Be Cool's strength comes from supporting performances. Although Harvey Keitel is mediocre and Vince Vaughn got on my nerves, the work of Cedric the Entertainer, Christina Milian and The Rock is superlative. Cedric (along with Andre of the group Outkast) is successful at being "vicious" and comedic. Milian's voice sounds wonderful here, and her Linda Moon is the most likeable character in the film. The Rock is flat-out hillarious as a macho bodyguard who happens to be gay. His "performance" of a monologue (which features 2 characters talking) from Bring It On is probably the film's funniest scene. Anyway, don't expect anything from Be Cool other than a fun way to spend 2 hours, which it succeeds at admirably. B

oooh, nice to see AMITYVILLE is attached to BE COOL.

In the UK it's attached to HIDE AND SEEK and BOOGEYMAN. Which were both number 1.

The trailer for The Amittyville Horror has been attached to quite a few movies. MGM is doing a great job at really having the trailer shown a lot.

It's also hardly surprising it would be attached to Be Cool, considering that's also an MGM movie.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I saw Be Cool this morning. The 10:45am show. I've never been that early at a movie theater, but I had literally nothing to do this morning, so I just went. It was around 30% full, which is not bad for a movie in it's second weekend that early in the morning. There were trailers for A Lot Like Love, The Amityville Horror, Sahara, Fever Pitch, and Beauty Shop. I enjoyed Be Cool. It wasn't as great as I hoped for or from what I heard, but it was an entertaining movie. The best part about the movie is The Rock, as he steals the movie from everyone. All his scenes were funny. Vince Vaughn was also pretty funny, but he tried a little too hard. The lovely Christina Millian also did really good as the undiscovered singer waiting to break out. I wasn't all that impressed with John Travolta or Uma Thurman, but they did good. Nothing great. Cedric was decent. His whole speech racism with the russian was great. Overall, it could have been better, but it was worth a watch, and was pretty funny. B-

So AMITYVILLE was attached to all copies of CURSED and BE COOL.

Thats $38,426,000 + $17,754,000 = $56,180,000 worth of people.

Not to mention that it was shown before BOOGEYMAN in some cinemas.

Anyone see the trailer for AMITY with anything else?

I saw a preview screening of Robots this afternoon (in the UK - Opens next weekend)

Trailers:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Lots of talking and laughter, good reaction
Poohs Hefalump Movie - no reaction
Madagascar - Some laughter towards the end
Star Wars Episode 3 - No reaction

Overall i enjoyed Robots, i gave it a B. Very creative and visual, but with not much substance behind it. It did manage to make me laugh in quite a few places.

XXX: State of the Union (some whispers)
Kingdom of Heaven (silence)

Hostage is a deeply flawed, though stylish, action film. It's also unrelentlessly grisly and violent. I was getting sick of all the graphic violence this movie had to offer (including the shooting deaths of both a child and a dog) by the time the 110 minutes ended. Perhaps the best thing about it is the visual flair brought by director Florent Niri. Despite not being a very good movie, Hostage looks great. Willis does his typical "tortured soul" bit here, presenting a character that comes across as a low-rent John McClane without the witty one-liners. Jonathan Tucker is over-the-top as one of the main thugs, but Ben Foster is quite creepy. I would've liked to have seen his character explored a bit more, because the filmmakers had something good there and didn't present it well enough. It was also nice to see the little boy portrayed by Jimmy Bennett have some brains and not just stand there whimpering like many of the children in these movies tend to do. Overall, a mediocre effort. C+
