From notfabio:
Quote: AKELA 40 $294
MISS3 averaging about 70 people a show, it is waaay too early to jump to conclusions but worst case scenario its mid 50's this weekend.
70 plus seems pretty unlikely unless Cinco De Mayo is having an impact. This is not a big hispanic market.

The DLP at 2:00 in Dublin was nowhere near a sellout, though the movie had ALOT of showings, but when I got out at 4:30pm there really wasnt alot of people at the theatre and this is a very crowded area and popular shopping center.
Hacienda 21
350 seats
35% Full at most
Trailers:
The Break-Up ( laughs )
Nacho Libre ( lots of laughs, should be a decent hit )
POTC 2 ( some whispering )
Over the Hedge ( Nada, this really doesnt look that funny )
Superman Returns ( I could kinda tell people were really had their eyes glued to the beginning but then lost interest, little bit of whispering )
Movie
Love the digital, DLP is the way to go. The movie itself is very forgettable. The action is there and it's good, the problem is the story is nowhere to be found and that leads to ALOT of boredom between action sequences. Cruise is Cruise, he's always good, the supporting cast is decent for what they have and Hoffman is underused, he's fantastic in the scenes you actually do get to see him though.
Overall good action and pretty much boring everything else.
C+
Oh BTW, BAD ending.

An American Haunting
7pmish
about 50% full (more than I expected)
trailers:
Pulse
The Omen
See No Evil
All the King's Men (I can't figure out how this got in there)
The movie itself almost works as a comedy, but as a thriller/horror it pretty much misses the mark. Best thing about the movie is Spacek and Sutherland, no one else is able to hold a candle to them (though there is an awful lot of candle-holding in general in the movie) when it comes to acting ability. This is one of the few movies I've seen where the camerawork is completely maddening in a bad way, I swear every chance the director got he would start spinning the camera around and around and around and faster and faster and faster, even when someone was just sitting there reading! It was ridiculously annoying. It has a few good scenes, great music and some pretty entertaining moments but for what it sets out to do it's nearly a complete failure. grade - C/C-

3:50 - 78
4:25 - 88
5:00 - 74
5:40 - 121
6:15 - 151
(Apparently, not the blockbuster we hoped for. I will be lucky to do 40 million this weekend if this happens to other theaters.
Amercian Haunting
11:20 - 9
1:50 - 21
4:30 - 39
(Not bad, but being on 1 screen, this isn't saying much. Let's see how it does at night).
Hoot.
11:30 - 0
12:30 - 0
1:45 - 10
2:45 - 4
4:10 - 8
5:10 - 2
6:30 - 9

5;10 - 3
(Boo).
All the holdovers barely registered, so big drops will be expected. This weekend looks to be a dud.

probably the internet is to blame for high expectations because, as someone said, sites claimed sold-out reports when it is not.

Scott, $40M? That's barely a $10,000 per theater average, that seems particularly unlikely.

Mission Impossible 3
7:00 show, 500-seat auditorium, 90% full.
Trailers
The Break-Up
Nacho Libre
X-Men 3
Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Over the Hedge
Superman Returns
Movie
I enjoyed it more than the other two. The first one bothered me because it was so ridiculously confusing, and the second one seemed like a lot of style with no real substance.
I mean, not a great movie or anything, but the action scenes were loud and chaotic, always a plus for these types of movies. Overall, a good way to start off the season. B

Not a single sellout all night thus far at my theater. It could be because it's on four screens, but the Van Helsing comparison seems to be close to dead on.
Also, I talked to a friend who works at the theater and they had to cancel the midnight showing last night because no tickets were sold.

A similiar PTA to Van Helsing would put it at $55-60M, right?

Around that, yeah.
So, not too bad. Not great, though.
I'm not sure if he was talking PTA or overall performance, though.

I'm still not to worried about there not being sellouts. For example this is a rather common schedule for the big theaters around Atlanta, and there are at least four that have similar schedules as this that I noticed:
10:00am I 11:00am I 12:10 I 12:40 I 1:10 I 2:10 I 3:20
3:50 I 4:20 I 5:20 I 6:30 I 7:00 I 7:30 I 8:30 I 9:40 I 10:10
10:10 I 10:40 I 11:40 I 12:35am I 1:00am
With shows at least every hour, of course most shows aren't going to sell out. This isn't Star Wars and nobody is expecting a $100 million weekend.

Not to mention Scary Movie 4 got $40M with almost no sellouts at all (from what I could see) on less theaters.
