Hide and Seek just does NOT look like a movie a whole bunch of college kids would go to. Alone in the Dark, however, does.

The same could have been said about House of the Dead though, right? Granted, AiTD has a more appealing rating, but I don't expect that to help it much.

Alone in the Dark has a much stronger campaign than House of the Dead(thanks to Lions Gate).

That may be. It doesn't change the fact that the internet buzz is terrible, the trailer is atrocious, and most people outside of movie-oriented teens know much about it.

I believe it will open with about 8m. The ads have been fairly effective IMO.

Opening it against Hide and Seek was not a great idea. Both are somewhat "similary-themed" fims. Well, not really, but you get what I mean. I just don't see who'd pickAlone in the Dark over Hide and Seek.
My final predictions:
Opening weekend - $5.9 million
Total gross - $11.5 million

How can logic apply to this film when it didnt apply to other action bombs? Awful marketing, horrific reviews and just a generally terrible idea means that $5m may even be out of reach. Ive got it pegged at $4.5m opening and a finish of around $6.8m

Hmm... Hide and Seek or Alone in the Dark?
I say we're looking at one of the few, the proud of 2005 that won't make a 2x multiplier.
$5.0 million/$9.2 million.

industry estimates is.... high single digits
http://www.variety.com/article/VR111791 ... id=13&cs=1
Dark," which has been marketed as more of a monster horror pic, is expected to draw a slightly more male aud that could generate an opening in the high single digits.

Im wondering why, this movie, with its terrible worse-than-anything-in-a-long-time reviews isnt getting a huge onslaught that was experienced by a certain other Not-So-Well reviewed adaptation film out not so long ago.

All non-Blockbuster supernatural-horrors until Ring 2 will get lost in the craze that is going on right now. Honestly, when there is an average of 1 coming out per week, and most of them are exactly the same, none of them will be memorable. These few months will just be viewed as 1 bad horror movie, its getting ridiculous. #-o

Because no one expected Alone in the Dark to be good, whereas people thought Elektra would be watchable.

Yeah well with that having been said, count The Ring II amongst the most ridiculous of sequels to horror films made cause the 1st film Sucked big nuts and was the most overrated and overhyped movie I've ever read about and how scary it was... Maybe it's because of my age that I just don't find this as scary as people around the Net made it out to be??? Actually, the next good horror movie I'd have to predict will be "The Amityville Horror" Remake in April....

While I agree with you in saying that many of the films in this period will be completely forgettable, I think that there will be some that will stand out.
Boogeyman, Hide & Seek and especially White Noise will probably be forgotten by the end of the year, while Cursed has the potential to become popular, and The Ring 2 will probably be one of the most hyped movies of the year (quality is another issue).

Uwe Boll says that Lions Gate wants to release Bloodrayne....
After seeing the below article, I think that it is true.
http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout ... egoryid=13
Hard to overlook was the lack of aud interest in the weekend's only other wide release, R-rated frightener "Alone in the Dark." Distribbed by Lions Gate, it scared up only $2.5 million from its 2,124 first runs. Lions Gate co-prexy Tom Ortenberg said distrib is just collecting a fee on the pic, after helmer Uwe Boll secured outside financing to cover both production and distribution costs.
