I think's a great move to release it a year later. You don't want to release to soon like in the same year plus with a cliffhanger like that you don't want to keep 'em hanging for another three years. So to me a year is the pefect amount of time to pick up anticipation for it.

The reason why i don't see it improving a lot over POTC 2 because it won't get time to build it fanbase from POTC 2.
There was a 3 year gap between POTC 2 and POTC. In that 3 years fanbase for pirates became huge. Hence the record breaking weekend for POTC 2. Also POTC 3 will be facing shrek 3 second weekend which no doubt will be $80-90 million thus eating into POTC 3 opening weekend.
POTC 3 will beat POTC 2 (4-day) BUT SM3 will end up breaking the record which POTC 3 won't be able to do due to shrek 3. bleh. fuck off u POTC (the most overrated franchise of all time. ONLY ASSHOLES WITH NO BRAINS WATCH POTC MOVIES) fan. take a chill pill man
Worst thing is, I've seen this happen on more than one occasion

Here are details written by someone in IMDB:
[spoil] Quote: The trailer will premiere with The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause on November 3rd. I work at Disney (not telling you which division) and the treatment for the trailer came in this morning. Whether or not it will be what is cut together is still to be determined. But generally they only alter a couple of shots. I have omitted most of the camera actions and not included all the shots described. But you should get the gist of it. It's not worth losing my job over.
Thunder STRIKES over WDP Logo.
OPENING SHOT: A dark night overlooking a Singapore Trading Harbor.
CAPTAIN SAO FENG: (Voice-Over) I hear a song Miss Swann. A song that has been sung by children, ghosts, and madmen. Yo..Ho...Yo..Ho...
Shot of SAO FENG smiling into Elizabeth's eyes.
ELIZABETH: Sounds better after a bottle of rum.
She pulls a cutlass to strike, is easily parried by Sao Feng. Will Turner appears behind him with a blade at his throat.
WILL TURNER: We're not here for you. We offer-
WILL is cutoff as SAO FENG administers a series of elbows and strikes, driving Will back into a barrel.
SAO FENG raises an iron claw to finish WILL off and is stopped by a blunderbuss (pistol) clicking right in his ear.
Camera swings around to reveal Barbossa with Monkey Jack on his shoulder.
BARBOSSA: We've come for The Black Pearl, Captain.
WILL and ELIZABETH turn to BARBOSSA with questioning looks.
BARBOSSA rolls his eyes.
BARBOSSA: And...for the soul of
Shot of pleased looking GIBBS on shore.
GIBBS: Captain?
Shot of LORD CUTTER whirling to face GOVERNOR SWANN.
CUTTER: Jack!
Shot of Davy Jones dropping an eye monicle on a navigation chart.
DAVY JONES: (whispers) ...Sparrow.
Turns to his crew.
DAVY JONES: The Locker!
Screen goes black.
JACK SPARROW: (echo voice-over) I'm in...something of a pinch mate.
Shot of WILL and BARBOSS in TIA DALMA's shack peering into a glass rock. Thousands of giant mutated crabs start to pour out of it and onto the dock. Jack's arms flail from the same portal. BARBOSSA and WILL step back.
Series of super quick shots.
WILL throwing ELIZABETH'S arms off him.
NORRINGTON in fresh Admiral's uniform aboard his own Royal Navy ship.
TIA DALMA laughing and sprinkling sand out of her hand.
SAO FENG: (voice over) You've come so far...
RAGETTI puts in a diamond eye and looks happy.
The KRAKEN's tentacles curling up behind NORRINGTON's ship.
GOVERNOR SWANN attacking CUTTER and being restained by his men and shackled.
SAO FENG: But will you go all the way to the end?
JACK SPARROW in a surreal desert (Purgatory) falling into quicksand and crabs. BARBOSSA reaching to pull him out.
JACK SPARROW: I'll not be saved by the likes of you!
Folds his arms in refusal and continues to sink.
BARBOSSA: And I don't want to be saving ya, but I don't see any sea turtles around to help ya now Jack.
"BOOTSTRAP" BILL sits at a campfire talking to someone OC.
BILL: I need to find him...he's...my son.
VOICE: You have a son?
BILL: Yes.
VOICE: I have a son as well. In these very waters. I'll help you find yours if you help uncover mine.
The owner of the VOICE leans into the fire and we see his face.
CAPTAIN GRANT "The Sea Sponge" SPARROW: Savvy?
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END
NEXT YEAR CAPTAIN JACK ATTACKS!

FUCK YEAH! December can't come soon enough!
I honestly think this could challenge Spider-man 3's teaser.
Also, I'm harding a hard time this is made up.

At World's End really is set in Singapore. I didn't read the rest, for the sake of avoiding spoilers.

A year is just about perfect between PotC2 and PotC3. It's enough time to finish the CGI on the third movie, and give people about 6 months to savor the DVD.
There's also a nice consistency in arranging franchise trilogies to open at about the same time every year. For example: Another Christmas, another LotR movie. Another summer: time for the next PotC movie. Harry Potter broke that rhythm and its box office suffered for it.
And Eventine, is that stuff spoilers? PLEASE put it into spoiler code. There are people who haven't even seen the second one yet!

It's got to be fake for several reasons. Those who read the rought draft pages of AWE that leaked to the 'Net can tell for sure that this transcript doesn't line up. Plus we have known, legit insiders calling a very loud "Fake!".
I do have to give the person credit for being so creative. It's a pretty freaking awesome trailer transcript.

Can't believe Orlando will have two franchise grossing $300m + each in his portfolio with this film.

Yes, but as shown by the string of flops that both Keira and Bloom have, 99% of people care about Depp. IMO, he could probably if he wanted to get a $100 m + payday from the next POTC film he signs up for. Of course, I don't think he'd do that, but he's about as close to reaching a record pay day as you can get. If he had a backend deal on POTC 2, he could very well make just as much, or more as Nicholson did on Batman...

That, or if he gets commission pay in addition to base salary.

Johnny Depp said he wouldn't mind making 12 Pirates movies. I think he found his dream job in Jack Sparrow.

indeed, I wonder how many Disney will be willing to do, 5-6? seems like a good amount go beyond and the quality might start to dwindle.

They will run out of quality script material, both in the characters' narrative arcs and in the pseudo-historical context. I personally wouldn't like any more movies after AWE.

I have no doubt there will be more, probably another trilogy. But they might well wait a few years to put a gap in between.

With Johnny being so completely in love with this character and so eager to do several more films featuring him.... I wonder if this might not be the character that actually gets him into TV again...
I highly doubt it (it would mean spending more time away from his villa in France), but it does make one wonder. At the very least, it'd be cool to have an animated TV series with Johnny voicing Jack (he could record from anywhere in the world). Just as long as the style is NOT the evil-looking "comic" style that's being used for the party favors and stuff.
