Nikki Finke @NikkiFinke 4h IMAX now updating that 'Catching Fire' late shows gargantuan +75% over first 'Hunger Games' and saying ran out of seats!
That extrapolates to 2.275M from IMAX

That extrapolates to 2.275M from IMAX Damn. And I didn't think that they even pushed the IMAX scenes that hard for this. Should have a strong three-week run.

Re: The definitive Midnight/Preview numbers thread
Yeah, that seems high IMO. IMAX sellouts sounded weak last night considering the reports from all over on BOF. We don't have a number for TDKR, but it's probably in the 2.5-3.0M range, and it seems crazy to me that this came close to that.
That said, there were a lot of shows, and most of the 5PM double features were playing in IMAX screens, so that can definitely bolster the performance.

Re: The definitive Midnight/Preview numbers thread
It probably averaged 1 more IMAX showing per theater than most movies. For midnight launches we usually only see 1 IMAX showing and sometimes a 2nd at 2-3 a.m. This film easily had the 5 and the 11:30 and in some cases probably a later 2a.m. showing. Plus the double feature revenue was probably added to Catching Fires gross alone and not spit between it and THG.

Re: The definitive Midnight/Preview numbers thread
Of those that made around what 300RoAE made last night, Sex and the City 2 had the worst weekend BY FAR with $30 mil.
Everything else is over $40 mil. With almost all over $50 mil.

I am pretty sure Man of Steel's numbers are midnights, right? The Walmart screenings were the only pre-midnight showings I believe.

Re: The definitive Midnight/Preview numbers thread
Fun facts:
-Guardians of the Galaxy crushed the previous preview/midnight record for an August release, increasing nearly ten-fold from the previous record held by Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($1.254 million). -Guardians also has the third-best midnight number for a non-prequel/sequel, behind only The Hunger Games ($19.735 million) and THe Avengers ($18.7 million). If it follows the Hunger Games opening day/midnight IM, it makes $38.2 million today. If it follows the Avengers IM, it makes $48.4 million today.

That's a grey area. It's a spin-off.

Re: The definitive Midnight/Preview numbers thread
So Thor: The Dark World should be abbreviated as Thor 3? Oh darn, we've been wrong this whole time! So when you said this: Chippy wrote: If this opened over Thor 2, would that be PATHETIC for Thor 2? You were really talking about The Avengers, huh?
