The Top 5 films is going to interesting to watch with Godzilla, Spider-Man, and X-Men all looking a similar totals. And they're likely to gross low enough (sub-$225M) that Maleficent, Apes, and/or 22 Jump Street could come into play if they meet/exceed expectations a bit, too. Transformers and Dragons should be the safe Top 2, though.

The way things are falling I could still get points for Neighbors, Spider-Man and Million Dollar Arm.

If Maleficent and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes were to both disappoint, I could feasibly see a scenario like this: 1. How to Train Your Dragon 2 - $300 million 2. Transformers: Age of Extinction - $275 million 3. X-Men: Days of Future Past - $230 million 4. The Fault in Our Stars - $225 million 5. Maleficent/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes I mean, stranger things have happened.

I think the last time that happened was with Hunger Games, and well, enough said.

I'm not sure Fault will have the legs to get over $200M with Dragon coming out the next weekend. Something ridiculous like a $65M+ weekend wouldn't be all that surprising now though.

$200m is a stretch. It would need to open huge as opposed to legging it because due to its incredible popularity these past months, I think it will crash during its second weekend, like a 55%+ drop, no matter how good it is.
It has no other "hook" to it than being a romantic drama unlike even Twilight which had the jokeworthy addition of vampires and what-not.

Fault does strike me as the kind of film that will have a steep second weekend drop, but then stabilize very quickly and for the rest of its run. So I wouldn't discount a 3.5+ multiplier even if it did have a 55% drop.

So I wouldn't discount a 3.5+ multiplier even if it did have a 55% drop. Yeah, I imagine it'll have a run similar to Twilight, Hunger Games and Divergent, with initial frontloading balanced out by strong WOM giving it late legs. But unlike those films I expect to stabilize sooner (its third weekend is a pretty dead one), and this will also have summer weekdays, which have often been kind to teen movies. And better still, nothing is directly aiming for the same demo as Fault (young women) for the rest of the summer, with the arguable exception of Step Up All In (arguable in whether or not it'll have an impact). I also expect it to have even stronger WOM than those other three YA films, and reach even farther beyond the book fanbase than any of those films ever did. Hence, $200+ million.

I don't see what will hook men?
Not that Twilight did much, but even then it "promised" some kind of action or whatever.
I just think it needs to appeal to more than just women or young women to get to $200m.

The Twilight franchise's male appeal was anemic (New Moon's opening weekend was 80% female), and it was still a massive success. It should have be a big date movie for at least the first month of release.

The 3rd highest grossing film of May question is going to come down to the wire. C'mon Godzilla! All you need is $30M more!

I don't think this is a fair representation of where people stand currently. Q#8 is currently awarded to everyone who said T4 will not triple Blended's gross. Blended has really bombed and T4 will most definitely triple its gross so points can already be awarded to everyone who said No. That would be pretty more realistic. Also Q#4 the battle is between Godzilla and Maleficent and points are given to people who said X5. I think that points from questions should not be counted yet. The ranking so far should only be counted on projected totals.

I have it that way so there's some guaranteed ranking changes and fun. I give points for projected totals, but then the Top 5 and box office questions give points on their "live" standings. The final rankings will definitely look much different.
