This one is falling surprisingly fast. I think it'll just make over $100 million now. Good job to those who saw that coming.

Should be closer to Scott. I see the weekend take being around $18.2 million. A pretty harsh drop for an animated movie considering that it's the Thanksgiving weekend. I expect Spongebob to make $90 million in total before leaving the theatres.

It will be lucky to reach 80m. It's proven to be more frontloaded then The Cat in the Hat. I expect a drop of 70% next week. I would give it about 75m in total.

I hate to sound smug and arrogant but I have been saying all along that fan base movies perception is very biased. There were alot of people that were saying the movie will gross over 150 million dollars because the show was very popular and appealed to adults too. I even brought up examples of Beavis & Butthead and X-files to show that popular shows dont normally translate well into movie ticket sales but my valid points got ignored by many. I was pretty close when I said the movie will gross around 80 million dollars and was called crazy for going low on a movie based on a popular show.
I now wish we can transfer old BOM topics like the one stating the Simpsons movie will gross over 300 million dollars while I said it will be lucky to pass 150 million dollars. In that thread I was called crazy for lowballing that too

I would not be surprised if The Simpsons dropped just as hard. You know what the difference is, though?
The Simpsons would open with $80+ million at least.

I don't know about 80 million dollars. As I mentioned in older post at BOM, X-files at its peak was in the top 5 Nielson ratings behind Seinfield, ER and Friends and yet it barely reached 80 million in culmative gross. It had an ok opening of 35 million. The Simpsons was at its highst peak in 1992 but it failed to reach the top 5 in nielson ratings although it did reach the top 10. I think they would have to CGI the Simpsons or even *gasp* live action The Simpsons with real life actors to make it work(Heck it worked for Flintstones, Scooby Doo and Garfield

Live action Simpsons = Big NO NO
X-Flies has never had the appeal that The Simpsosn has. X-Files' audience consists of mostly adults, while The Simpsons is popular among ALL demographics and the show is running successfully for over 10 years now. It has an immense fanbase that X-Files has never had.

There is no chance that The Simpsons Movie would open with $80 million. The most I would expect for it is $40 million opening and maybe $100 million overall.

A Simpsons Movie would open with 70m at most, but it would drop off the face of the earth in the second weekend. It wouldn't get a multiplier above 2.3.
Roidrage is completely right about the ratings. I don't think it ever has been as immensly popular as fans often think. Spongebob is the prefect example of fans overestimating the popularity of a TV show. I really think people around here overestimate the popularity of The Simpsons because it appeals mainly to the demographic around here.
