Missed the trailers, small room of about 200 but it has about 40% full (hard to tell as we came in with the lights dim). Great reactions throughout, tons of screaming. Great movie to see with a crowd like that. The assholes checked my ID at least three times though, even though they only checked my white friends once with me being right next to him, fucking suburbs:roll: But yeah, the movie was pretty damn solid throughout, ended a bit quickly and it's hard to think they wouldn't have left sooner but it was definitely the scariest flick I've seen all year and the best made one too. I'd give it a high B+
Oh yeah, and I'm seeing xXx tomorrow, but it DID sell out on the 11 screen theater near me according to my friends who saw it (loved it too). I don't know how it was doing at the Lloyd or this theater though, but I'm definitely hoping this doesn't do that badly. I'm still not yet convinced it'll have that terrible an opening, (I'd guess 25-30 million) but we'll see. Glad to see you enjoyed Amityville and sorry to hear about them giving you a hard time with the whole I.D nonsense.. Based in your pic, you look older than 17 to me.. What the fuck?? Gotta hand it to you B, even if you weren't right about the movies box office, you were right about the quality (though you can note I always believed it'd rule too  ). Oh yeah, and as for this "standing ovation" nonsense, bulllllllllshit! I see clapping all the time, especially at sneak previews, but people STANDING and clapping? No way in hell, not even the ROTK opening night when every single ticket sold was one bought in advance could muster that, there's no way in hell Hitchhiker's could. Clapping is one thing, standing up and clapping just makes you look like a lost handicapped idiot.
 I mean, I think the last time I can honestly recall a movie where the audience really applauded and whatnot was probably one of the Old SW movies like TESB.. That I do remember but it's just a rare thing to see where I live.. Everyone's pretty subdued even after seeing something like Amityville where there was more jumpety, after the film type of talking and whatnot..As for Amityville, the real George Lutz should be thankful that his character in the movie had freaking Abs of steel.. The real George Lutz has a gut like most Men back in the 70's.. No one had Abs like that but Reynolds still did a good job and I especially enjoyed the scene with the kid holding the logs while he split em..

I never understood a "Standing Ovation" in the cinema. Or just clap your hands: I mean do you say "Hey your solution was perfect" to the screen? I guess the people dont do it for the operator in the back
But I saw it a few time (Especially for LOTR). Or recently for the SW Trailer.

I recall my original prediction for HG was around 17/50. I still stand by it.
But the film might make a lot more, or at least it might be a lot more frontloaded. What many have missed in their predictions is that the HG phenomenom has a major established fanbase. And we are talking about real diehard fans here, not just casual fans.
Friday numbers will be very interesting.

There wasn't a standing "o" after Trilogy Tuesday ended and that seems like the ideal place.
I have seen people clap before.

People stood and applauded after the showing of Schindler's List I went to when it first opened. And that was in Houston.

I assumed it wasn't in Berlin.

Well, a movie like Schindler's List doesn't surprise me. Although I personally consider that to be the greatest movie ever made, the effect/impact it has on an audience it is so tremendous that would be my immediate reaction, too.

I've heard others say this too. That's not the point of clapping when a movie is over though. It's just fun and it shows the other moviegoers what you thought of the movie. It's about expressing your opinion and sharing it with everyone else there . And like I said, it's just fun =D>.

The ovation shpeal is true. The audience was into it. Once Adams' name was on screen, I heard a scatter of cheers. After the first scene ("Thanks for all the fish..." video), the cheers got larger.
When the movie ended, there wasn't any "standing" ovation, but there was clapping. Over 70% clapped and maybe 10% of the crowd stood up.
I'll give a review later, but I'm satisfied. The only one thing it doesn't do is play up the satire. The backup earth looks so nice that it creates appreciation. Adams' efforts weren't in dismissing Earth, but it didn't glorify it (from the first page with the freeway...eminent domain!?) either. Again, I don't buy thw whole standing ovation cheer bit.. Like Maverikk and no offense, but I've never bared witness to any of this stuff in my life, even going to theatres out of State.. And there were that many cheers for a movie like Hitchhiker's Guide??? This movie's being buttslammed in the reviews??
Ugh. You guys probably think I didn't see it, eh?
There WAS clapping. The audience was enthusiastic. I do remember, though, that it ends with "To Douglas." Just like in the beginning (hoots when it said "Screenplay written by Douglas Adams...), I think this could've been in recognition of Adams and his work, not in appreciation of the movie itself. As I said, a couple individuals stood up. It wasn't a sold out show. It was wild, though. Adults in their 40s got together to see it. Teens got together to see it on the basis of the appealing trailers. Familes were together. Every. Single. Demographic.
I had to review this for newspaper. If you really, really doubt the reaction (which I'm making a part of my review), I miiiiiight be willing to send you a copy once the paper is printed.

A few individuals stood up isn't really a standing ovation, and maybe they were just standing up to get out of the theater now that the movie was over. From the way some of you described it the entire theater stood up and clapped until the manager had to force people out of the theater for the next show full of people.

Oh. Okay, so I made the mistake of saying that the "ovation shpeal was true," even though I later said there wasn't any real "standing ovation" (in the same post). I'm making my whole lede to the review on seeing Hitchhiker on opening day. Fans of the book overtook the movie in volume at this showing. I imagine that it would've gotten annoying to bear if you hadn't read the book. People started cracking up as if they knew what would happen and it prob. would've given away any suprise.
Marvin was great. I'd give it around a B+ or so. I had problems with Rockwell (well, actually, I think it was the script. He just stuck out in too many scenes and got waaay to much time in the center of the screen. The fact that he wasn't smart was overdone.

A Lot Like Love
3:25 showing, 200-seat auditorium, about 55 people.
Trailers
Bewitched
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Dark Water
Herbie: Fully Loaded
Movie
A Lot Like Love is a pleasant, surprisingly touching romantic comedy that does not strive to be different, but instead contains more complexity and substance than one might initially expect from a movie that could be written of by some as being vapid. Perhaps most surprising about the movie is that, despite having numerous funny moments, it is not a flat-out comedy. More attention is payed to the details and inconsistencies in the character's lives. Much of this movie hinges on timing; Oliver (Ashton Kutcher) and Emily (Amanda Peet) have clearly always been right for each other, but whenever one of them is ready to begin a relationship with the other one, the timing doesn't work. Regarding the performances, Ashton Kutcher seems to be improving with every movie. Although his performance in A Lot Like Love is not absolutely brilliant and is sometimes too subtle, Kutcher manages to engage the audience's sympathy enough that we like Oliver a lot. Amanda Peet is radiant as Emily, accounting for many of the movie's more heartfelt moments. Although much of A Lot Like Love is not original, the film avoids being cloying or manipulative by not delving deep into melodrama, as many of these pictures tend to do. B

The Holy Girl
320 seater, probably about 150 people in the theatre. I'm not good at eye-balling, so I may be off on both the theatre size and the people present. But it was about 1/2 full, maybe even a teenie bit more. Only showed 5 times in that theatre today though. So its not running on two screens.
