Re: Post Holidays Weekend box office
Very few Brits ever cracked America. Robbie is not one of them. That's why nobody cares about his movie. It would be the same as a Gary Barlow or Duncan from Blue movie.
Better Man looks like Angela's Ashes but with a CGI monkey. Not even a CGI monkey could hide the fact that nobody cares about Robbie Williams. This is an ego project by a musician. Seems to be a few of these recently.

Spice Girls crossed over. Even Kylie Minogue had one huge hit with "Can't Get You Outta My Head." Robbie just never clicked here for some reason.
I do wonder if Justin Timberlake as a monkey would have done any better. The concept is near impossible to market.

I'm surprised he wasn't a bit more popular in the US (maybe sometimes international artists want to keep it untainted as their chill out spot? There are a few only popular in Canada artists that seemed to intentionally not go for a bigger American breakout imo whether for that reason or others) but even if he had a few top 10s with songs like Angels, it would just make him a guy like Pharrell that's way down the list for biopic options.

Spice Girls, yeah, and The Beatles. But as I said, very few. And Kylie Minogue is Australian. This reminds me of the guy that asked a British comedian what animals they have in the UK, "you got lions?". Americans know nothing about the rest of the world.

It's not exactly doing well in the UK either. It's a Conclave or We Live in Time -level performer, which is around £5-6m. Nobody seems to care here either.

Same here in Oz. Its performing just OK, or a bit under that which is bad considering it's the strongest movie going period of the year here AND he did some free concerts here a couple of weeks back to drum up publicity.

Maybe I missed it but congrats to Moana $1,012,585,981!
A DTV film last minute goes to theaters and makes $1B. Makes me wonder what a Lion King 2 Simba's Pride would have done in theaters in 1998.
Apparently sales were $300M on it. Animated sequels weren't as much a thing back then though. TS2 probably helped.

Re: Post Holidays Weekend box office
Simba's Pride (I haven't seen it so don't know the quality) would have won the 1998 box office - assuming it opened in June in place of Mulan - $250-$350m would have been on the cards.
In 1999 - Toy Story 2 was the first to be rushed out of DTV to theatrical and that was huge both in box office and critically.
