I still say that MVA won't "crush" anything, kids films can coexist, but it will be hurt a little. I say this will roll up to 80, and sadly stop just short there.

That was a surprisingly bad internal weekend multiplier, hm? It still has a shot at $80 million, though.

Re: Will Coraline become Focus Features' biggest film?
Did anyone predict this could happen 14 YEARS LATER?! Tuesday # for Coraline is $965,360 for $7,149,358 in this re-release. $75,286,229 from the original run and now at $82.44M from just 4 days of its re-release. BBM is at $83,043,761 so just $608K away. Downton Abbey is at $96,853,865 though which is their biggest for Focus now but still very impressive re-release. Didn't realize how well received this was that a sequel would definitely do pretty solidly.

Well 15 years later Coraline has passed BBM. Now it just has to get past 2019's Downton Abbey and it's $96,853,865 tally. Could be at $93M by Sunday so if it manages to hold onto theaters seems like this is finally happening and it will be Focus Features biggest film.

This is really weird, so this generation sees it like we did Nightmare Before Christmas? And why August? It being an October staple would've made more sense.

Coraline had a $2M Tuesday. Now up to $99M! 15 year old re-release will make more than Borderlands too.

This is performing like I would've predicted Coraline 2 to do not knowing any better.

Re: Will Coraline become Focus Features' biggest film?
The best re-releases I can think of are SW Ep. 4 (1997-20 years), TLK 3D (2012-18 years) and Titanic (2012-15 years).
TLK made $94,242,001 with the original's $312,855,561 total.
SW made $138,257,865 with the original's $307,263,857 total
Titanic made 2012 3D $57,884,114 with the original's $600,683,057 total.
% wise Hocus Pocus did great: $4.8M (2020) and $4.9M (2023) with original total of $39,514,713
Polar Express made $10,900,597 (2005) in its first re-release. Its grown to $189,528,738 total.
Coraline made $7.1M (2023) and $17.7M in 7 days so far (2024). Definitely looking like it could be a regular thing with these types of numbers. It's 2024 re-release alone is already 23.5% of the original unadjusted tally.

Exorcist did great too, almost 40 million off a 8.2 weekend (12k+ psa) more than pitch black and adjusts to about 80 million today, much bigger than this year’s sequel.

Re: Will Coraline become Focus Features' biggest film?
Coraline went up 400K for its 3day.
$3.11M 3day / $4.02M 4day estimate / $30.27M / $113.96M today cumulative
This is looking like this re-release could pull up 50% of the original's total unadjusted run which is crazy.
Seems that's a good sign for Wild Robot and the need for family fare.

I’m kind of baffled by this, coraline seems like such non film, is the movie even good or is just a goth experience?

Disney cancels Graveyard Book because of the sexual assault allegations against Gaiman. That's a shame. Could have been a big winner now that everyone suddenly loves Coraline. I suppose it'll be awhile before we get a Neverwhere movie too. Sandman season 2 must already be shot though ... right?

Re: Will Coraline become Focus Features' biggest film?
So Coraline is at $116.9M now domestic $185.8M global with just the 15 year anniversary re-release doing $33,626,425 domestic and $52,371,887 worldwide.
AND they are also re-releasing it again over Halloween! Won't do much as kids will be busy trick or treating but I have to give the studio credit here for creating a new tradition.
The re-release also helped Coraline pass Chicken Run to become the highest grossing stop motion film ever.
