Re: Lady Gaga - ARTPOP
Venus isn't my favorite of what we've heard so far (That'd probably be Sexxx Dreams and the snippet of GUY has me intrigued) but I like it a lot. The pre-chorus is awwwwesome.

Re: Lady Gaga - ARTPOP
ARTPOP (the title track) has to be one of her best songs. Amazing. GUY and MANiCURE are awesome. I'm a little bummed that the album isn't really a surprise (before the leak there are literally 2 songs I didn't know a thing about) but I think the album will keep growing on me.

Re: Lady Gaga - ARTPOP
'Gypsy' I think is my favorite right now. If the dance track had been removed from the song, I may call it her best song. That's not criticism, but I hope she performs this live with just a piano. Her voice really shines here.
'Dope' is also really good, 'G.U.Y' sounds very 90s pop to me (definite plus). I still need to hear 'Jewels N' Drugs', 'Donatella', 'Fashon!', and 'Mary Jane Holland'.

Yep, quite a bit better than Born this Way.
Gypsy, Manicure, G.U.Y, Artpop, Fashion and Dope are all standouts.

I like Venus, G.U.Y., Sexx Dreams, ARTPOP and Dope. MANiCURE and Swine are good too but second tier to those.
The rest I can do without, especially the fashion themed duo Donatella and Fashion! which are awful and probably the worst things she did so far. Even her/Heidi Montag old Fashion song is better than these two. Jewels N' Drugs and Aura are also a complete and utter mess, but at least they have something interesting.
I'm pretty disappointed. The standouts are good, but there's too many weak songs. And the lyrics as a whole are pretty boring and <<<< The Fame and BTW. This is the most I've appreciated BTW.
It's good. Different than her other stuff. Less emphasis on earworm melodies.
Jewels 'N Drugs, Aura, DWUW are highlights.
There's no Scheibe, though.

Re: Lady Gaga - ARTPOP
My favorite Gaga songs are Poker Face, Paparazzi, Bad Romance and Heavy Metal Lover.
ARTPOP, Gypsy, GUY, MANiCURE and Sexxx Dreams are my faves on the album. Too early to say if any of them would qualify as one of my favorites from her.

That's a career high, isn't it?
Also the album sold 58,000 copies first week in Japan, enough to debut at #1. The sales figure itself is mediocre, but considering western artists have been selling hardly any albums or singles in the market for over a decade, it's impressive.
The last western artist to have a #1 album in Japan, coincidentally, was also Lady Gaga with Born This Way (180,000) in May 2011 and Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby earlier that year. Before that... was Michael Jackson's This Is It in 2009.
#1 Albums (Western Artists) 2013 - ARTPOP (Lady Gaga) 2011 - Born This Way (Lady Gaga), Goodbye Lullaby (Avril Lavigne) 2009 - This Is It (Michael Jackson) 2008 - Hard Candy (Madonna) 2007 - Unbreakable (Backstreet Boys), The Best Damn Thing (Avril Lavigne) 2006 - Stadium Arcadium (Red Hot Chili Peppers) 2004 - Under My Skin (Avril Lavigne), Greatest Hits: My Prerogative (Britney Spears) 2003 - St. Anger (Metallica), 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane (t.A.T.u)

Re: Lady Gaga - ARTPOP
Wow. It's estimated to sell 250-275k this week. That's bad. Even less than Prism. Oh well, hopefully unlike Born This Way she could manage to have longetivity. The fact that this will struggle to hit Born This Way's opening week numbers make me really sad though. It's a great pop album. F it.
