Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
Anyone watching this. So sad. Hope they can save some of it.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
Looks really bad, has anything like it ever happened to it in its long history?

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
Can't see it so I'll see the aftermath. Clearly an investigation is needed.
They are gonna let the cathedral burn to the ground. Quite embarrassing. They claim they can't dump water on it for fear of damaging other structures. Sure
** Some reporter was talking about how the cathedral needed extreme renovation to the tune of 175 million and that the French govt had donated 40...like they should have funded the whole thing... Anyway, that's what all that scaffolding stuff was for and it was to be a long term project. Shep reported it's though the fire started somewhere with the scaffolding. There was a water reservoir between the two spires for emergencies like this...who knows how that went.

A water drop could collapse the entire building.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
I was just thinking about the fire drill protocols for this place. You would think certain relics would be priority #1 over anything else or kept off site while dupes were on site. At least that would be my hope in regards to that. Cavuto reported that in the very early stages the fire personnel who first arrived made at least some effort to save whatever precious items they could. Still ongoing they now say even the two columns could be compromised depending on how things go but we'll see.

It's a building *shrugs*
Now that space can be used for something useful, like a shopping mall.

I also found it ironic that it happened the same day as the Boston Marathon again. Thankfully no one was hurt and let's hope it wasn't anything sketchy but some inept construction worker that couldn't control his Cruella Deville cigarette holder. Seriously you don't want to be that guy.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
The fire was where the scaffolding work took place. A firefighter was seriously injured while tackling the blaze.

I wonder how much money the Vatican will donate to help rebuild it. Probably no more than 10%.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
Well, the state actually owns Notre Dame but they put the responsibility for all the upkeep on the church which they allow to use the building. I just thought that the EU should take the 1.7 billion they recently fined Google and just put that toward repairing the iconic structure. Solved and everyone looks good for it. To my relief I was glad to see they saved the precious relics though in the future they should just keep those in safe keeping off site and stick dupes in the real site.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire!
I was horrified. Like, this structure had existed for centuries and in my lifetime it's going up in flames. Noooooo
Fortunately it looks like the structural damage can be restored. May take 5-10 years but it'll get done. They certainly raised enough funds for the project.
The Acropolis, Colosseum and other older buildings have had renovation work done.
