I'm hugely into doing the theatrical productions at my high school, and the first show I auditioned for as a freshman, I got the lead role of Princeton in Avenue Q School Edition. That Spring we did Pippin, and I messed up my audition majorly, so I was rightfully in the ensemble. That summer we did Hairspray, and I was in the ensemble again, but there were a lot of talented college students in the cast, so I didn't mind. The following Spring, we did Into the Woods, and I thought I was a lock for Jack. But some freshman came and stole the role from me; I did not even get a callback.
Last summer, we did Shrek, and I finally got some lines again as Humpty Dumpty. The this past Spring, we did Footloose, and again I received no call backs. We were supposed to do Chicago this summer, but a tour was scheduled and our rights were revoked, so we are now doing Next to Normal, which I also did not get a call back for and probably will not be cast in. What do you think is the most likely reason for my utter failure?

1. I don't have talent anymore.
2. I am doing something to personally upset the directors.

Seriously, they are calling back people who are terrible singers and actors, people who don't come to rehearsals or even give a shit. I just don't know what's wrong. It is really ruining the most fun thing I do in my life.

Unfortunately we can't actually judge your skills so we can only go by what you say is happening. Maybe you should try to get feedback from one of the casting directors or whoever as to why you were not chosen and what you could improve if anything. Sometimes folks are picked because of who they know or maybe they have a certain look or its just luck.

Your performances are most likely getting worse. They probably started to get worse when you began posting 100 times a day on WOKJ.

So easy to kick ya, but I can relate. Real life is kicking in. I won 13 film festivals as a kid. Adapt, and maybe move to non musicals, you'll find that's much better the older you get. If you think school fascism is the worst, wait til you get to college. It took me my junior year of college to get a lead in a play (4 plays a year and the same actors were always the lead, and this was a premeire theater program, and I won 2 awards as a supporting role, but no one gave a shit until the leads graduated) and I got my first role in a movie because of it.

If it's high school it's probably because the teacher that is directing hates you (I mean, you could suck and you blew so much the first time they're onto you. But as I said, move to non musicals.)

Nothing. Being an actor is painful; I had friends in college who were theater majors who were verging on the edge of anxiety attacks for 4 straight years.

Yeah, the best advice is to be positive. And if you cannot, then I guess you're just not a very good actor.

Pretty much what Libs said. It's a hard business, I did it for 6 or so years. I miss the performing aspect of it majorly, the auditioning... Not so much.

As for Next to Normal, there is only 6 people in the cast, so it's such a small musical, I wouldn't get too upset without a call back. Also... Is this a high school theater doing Next to Normal? Please tell me no. I wouldn't even be able to deal.

High school and college theater auditions still give me heartburn. In retrospect they give you a very tough skin. And there are literally so many outlets outside of school, you'll find your niche.

It is a high school, but it is open to college students. However, they have mostly lost interest and it is just the high schoolers left.

they said they were planning on casting 15 to 20 cast members. what makes me upset is that they called back 9 males who are not me. 5 to 6 of them are very talented and certainly deserving. but there is one kid who is an a****** who the director inexplicably likes (he misses over half of rehearsals and couldn't give less of a s***. and another who is a truly awful singer and actor who I can't explain.

I'm not saying im amazing or anything, but I find it hard to believe they would have let me perform as Princeton if I was as bad or worse than him.

First off, there is no chorus in Next to Normal, so I have no idea how they would even do that. Second, since it's a sanitized high school show, as an actor I personally wouldn't want anything to do with it. Be thankful because it will likely be a truly terrible production.

Should try giving more blow jobs, maybe some rimming if you want the lead.

Update- My director cast about 30 people in Next to Normal. Never thought being in the ensemble would make me so happy.
