Post Trump or Bush
If you had to choose right now between Trump being the president for the next 5 years and W. Bush (who is about a month younger than him), who would you pick? Bush comes with the Cheney package again (not Vice President but close enough to him to have control).

Don't know. Is there a third option called "none" or maybe America can go "hostless" like Oscars

Post Re: Trump or Bush
This sounds terrible but the answer has to be Trump ? Bush's leadership style was much better no doubt but Trump's actual presidency - so far -has been much better than W. W seemed like decent person who just not the sharpest and was used by others more cunning; Trump is not a good person but is much more intelligent AND has shown some ability to listen to others when its clear his popularity will tank if not.

Im not confident that W would be handling cover any better than DT while I am reasonably sure DT would never have let us get into anything resembling the Middle East mess that W initiated. Also, DT wasn't so loyal to conservative principles that he would rush into a recession rather than abandon ship - note how few republicans are upset at DTs recent adoptable of socialism ?

I'd GREATLY prefer Mitt Romney plz who I actually suspect would have successfully avoid any serious cover problems in the US as he have listened to his advisors from day 1.

Which would you rather drink, rat poison or bleach?

I can't pick Trump, he is such an awful person. But when I think of Bush, I remember Fahrenheit 9/11. He was such a poor leader and not a smart person. I guess Bush, at least he's not a hateful person, and we'd get 5 more years of Bushisms.

Bush, in hindsight, was basically owned by the oil countries in the Middle East through Cheney. Trump views improving America as the means to the end of serving his own self interest. Be real.

People may not like DT as a person but it is nearly impossible to have a worse Presidency than W Bush did. Worthless, endless, ultra-expensive WARS!!! combined with the worst economic crash in near 80 years is PRETTY FUCKING BAD.

Trump is a POS person but the results of his presidency are obviously much better than W "so far".

I am assuming you're referring to the coronavirus. Trump gravely fucked up the response. 7 weeks of doing nothing. Not testing, not tracking the virus, not isolating the infected. He repeatedly misled the public by saying it's like the flu and it would go away from 15 cases to 0. He was busy doing political propaganda blaming the coronavirus concerns as a hoax. He ignored the CDC guidelines for social distancing. He did not take up a federal response to coordinate the purchase and allocation medical protective gear when in short supply. The complete mess up resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and months of lockdown which could have been avoided.

W could do better because 1) Trump's response is the bottom of the bottom. and 2) he would set aside political propaganda and listen to experts for advice.

Yeah, Trump sucked, but Bush showed zero signs being any better. Covid-19 will not come close to rivaling the total cost of the Middle East wars or 9/11 mess which W obviously failed to prevent and reacted to horribly

Trump >>> bombing Iran in 2 years.

The US was in way worse position in so many ways in 2008 than 2000. W. could not be more of a fail.

I was speaking specifically about the pandemic response. W would be better because he would not be there to talk against taking precautions, downplay the whole thing and blame it as a Democratic hoax. Trump wasted us a lot of time and made people more vulnerable.

Why are you so sure that would be his approach? W downplayed Middle East terrorism big time which lead to the horrific 9/11 attack and then, his overreaction was the definition of "the cure is the worse than the problem" with deadly, ultra expensive endless wars in the Middle East.

Sorry but some folks hatred of Trump is apparently causing amnesia. W is a proven complete disaster, the book is still very much out on DT

This is tough. My automatic response is that anyone is better than Trump but just can't bring myself to vote for W. He seemed like a good guy, someone you'd like to have a beer with, but was clearly way over his head and taking advice from all the wrong people.

Though Trump will go down in history as America's reaction to the first black president. That everlasting shame will probably be more remembered than folly of Iraq War 2.

I think W would not treat this thing as a sideshow of his re-election campaign. 9-11 was an ambush attack. I don't think anyone (other than the murderers) knew the specifics until the day it hit, let alone a few months out. This coronavirus has been out in the open for two months. The evidence of a pandemic was out there. The US saw the outbreaks in China, Italy, and South Korea and how other countries handled it. But still Trump was unprepared and deliberately downplayed it.

This is a bunch of nonsense. "Americas reaction to the first black president". The guy did not come close to winning the most votes and won due to in insane combination of factors from an awful rival candidate in Hillary & her horrible campaign to foreign interference.

Don't like Hillary got crushed and Trump won on some huge wave. He didn't. People still love Obama.

Obama in 2016 would have beaten Trump by much higher levels than he beat Romney

Considering Trump is merely a reaction president, you has led to a deeply divided country and has worked at reversing most progress made in the previous decade, I’d go with Bush.

Post Re: Trump or Bush
Bush’s war on terror is still causing issues to this day, both from a deficit issue and creating more problems in the Middle East than solving, so there is that piece. For Trump’s legacy, if we remain deeply divided for years is the possibility of his negative repercussions that started before he was even elected or even started running. Curious to see. Right now I still see him winning in 2020 because I am paranoid he’ll rig the election, and even if it is a fair election, I worry the progressive wing will again forget to go out and vote or refuse to because they refuse to compromise.

I am sure James Buchanan still has something to say.

Also Andrew Jackson’s wild cat banks were a disaster (although unlike James Buchanan, he did stop a potential civil war in the 1830s)

Regarding some other comments in this thread:

Trump has divided the nation, but so did Bush. That's pretty much 50/50.

The economy has tanked in pretty much every nation in the world, regardless of their response to Corona. Yes, Trump was irresponsible, but in the overall picture it really doesn't matter that much, whether the quarantine would have started a month earlier.
