Why is the Pope clinging to life?
Disclaimer: I'm not being heartless, I wish the guy well.
But I mean isn't the whole essence of his religous philosophy that he will go to heaven and it's better than this earthly life, and that this earthly life is just a blink of an eye in the long existence in other forms?
So why not just die already, go to heaven.
Personally though I hope he lives and enjoys life because I don't believe in all that stuff, but I'm saying if one DOES believe in it, as one would assume the Pope does, why cling to life?

Seriously LOL. Sometimes i actually wonder what secrets they are hiding in the Vatican. After reading Angels and Deamons by Dan Brown, you actually learn a lot. Did you know that they actually have the 'body' of st. peter buried under the vatican. Only a special few can go there.
I think the pope, has a special god pager

r
That's not a secret. That's the one and only reason why the Vatican is located where it is today. The original church was erected upon the grave to mark the site.
Did you know there was a female pope? They found out about her when she became pregnant. Now that's interesting. But that too is not a secret. Most of those so-called 'secrets' are things so dull and yawn-inducing that they are just passed by. No Lost Ark or any such nonsense, though the Vatican does have a tremendous collection of world treasures that is really unrivalled.

Yes. Angels and Deamons is such a good book... very good. have you read it Box? I think you will like it. It's about science vs. religion. Catholocism vs. the Illuminati.
Good stuff in there. Ie talks about how artificial inseption can bypass a priest's no-sex rule. So they can have children etc.
The speech by the Carlemengo in that book, is one of hte best pages i've read in any book.

Angels and Demons is a very good book. Quite entertaining and far better then the vastly overrated Da Vinci Code.

I'm of Christian heritage neo. Not quite Catholic (I'm not a member of the Catholic Church), but close to it.

Da Vinci Code was good, but it good too bogged down in the "holy divine feminine" or something like that. And the ending... [-( [-( [-(

So why not die already and go to heaven?? Cause it's not his time yet believe it or not.. It's coming soon though just like the rest of us.. All of us have a time, a place, and a certain date when we go no matter what the circumstances are and God hasn't called upon him yet to come..

It's fiction, Box!
I read Davinci Code and thought it was great fun and will possibly be a good movie. I don't believe most of what was in it, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. I liked Lord of the Rings and I don't believe in hobbits, and I liked Aladdin and I don't believe in genies.

Hmm, perhaps the pope, i dont know [call me wild] wants to NOT DIE.
Like say 99.9% of the world....
Stupid thread.
P.S I find it totally hillarious how bookgeeks are slamming the Da Vinci Code after originally singing it high praises. Once it began to really shift to non-tradtionals the book community shut it out - god forbid someone who is not pretentious and self-contrived actually read and enjoy an intelligent [somewhat] work of fiction.

I know Mike, I just don't like those conspiracy stories. Even sci-fi conspiracies turn me off. Even, to an extent, Indiana Jones. It's just this idea of suspecting others of keepinng a secret. There are no such things. There's only stuff you have either knowledge of or don't. And if you don't, that's not because someone is keeping it so secret from you, but because you are keeping yourself from finding out about it by, say, doing the proper reaserch?! \:D/

Once you read Dan Brown's other works, it becomes obvious that he's jus recycling plots and characters that he already used to greater effect in superior novels. So it makes perfect sense that people would initially like Da Vinci Code and that leads them to read Brown's other novels, which they then like more.
As to your comments about the Pope, you clearly didn't understand the theological question at the heart of this thread.

I thought the DaVinciCode was freaking boring and I put it down half way through. Anywho.....
As to the question, I see your point about encouraging afterlife, but I think its a different discussion due to his position. People [the masses] are supposed to look forward to it because they're embrace of earthly life detracts from saintlyness, but the Pope is here to be God's messenger, so its a pretty holy position even for this world. Perhaps he just wants to keep doing it? But he's got very horrible parkinsons and suffers everyday so I don't know.
[an aside] When I went to my grandfather's funeral in Israel four years ago, I was living in Rome right behind the Vatican then. When my extended family found out they kept excitedly saying "Il Papa" you live right near "Il Papa?" So I said yes (I've seen him several times there), and they told me a ton of stories. My grandfather was from Poland before the war and he was a bit older, but his younger brother (whom i met at the funeral) used to play soccer in the streets with the pope. The boys from the synagogue would always play against the boys from the church everyday after school. I thought that was cute. Anyways, he knew my grandfather's brother pretty well, and years later (when he was pope) my grandfather's brother's wife went to rome and decided she was going to visit the pope. just like that. no number, no forwarning, he;d remember them. So she showed up at the vatican and the guards are like "what do you think you are doing?" and she said, tell the pope that i'm hear to see him and that i'm so-and-so's wife. so they looked at her funny but did it, and the pope actually accepted her on the spot and they met and chatted for awhile. [/ aside]
