George Carlin is a favorite, as are Denis Leary and Bill Hicks. If anyone knows the story of Hicks and Leary, then you'll know that most would prefer one over the other, but I still like both. I also think Jerry Seinfeld is good, but most of his comedy was better-suited for his show. Dennis Miller is great, and who can forget Conan O'Brien? I don't think Conan ever was a stand-up comedian (nor was Dennis Miller), but they've done their share of comedy.

Ellen DeGeneres. She is the best at taking everyday normal stuff, the truth, and making it funny. The funniest material is true material. She also has an amazing ability to make it seem like she's being completely serious and that what she's talking about is nothing. It makes the whole thing even funnier.
I also enjoy George Carlin a lot. I recently watched his 'You Are All Diseased'. Great stuff.
PEACE, Mike

He was very different and he had good points while making big controversy funny, not for family entertainment. But Highly entertaining.

Wow a thread from 2004! Do you feel like Jon Hammond extracting amber from fossilized mosquitos?
Though funny enough, my answer in 2004 would be pretty much the same as now.
Chris Rock Dave Chappelle Eddie Murphy George Carlin
And Bill Burr would be the only one in my top 5 I didn't really know about yet. For newer people, I like Taylor Tomlimson alot but she wouldn't come near this top 5

Re: Favourite Comedian?
I think the Bill Hicks and George Carlin style is the best. Patton Oswalt is underrated as his character actor career overshadows it.
