Why would his dying increase chances of peace. yes he was a terrible man and a terrorist, but do you all imagine he will be replaced by someone more conciliatory? That would be nice but I doubt it. The main beneficiary of his death would seem to me to be Hamas which might take a larger role now.

Exasperated and worried, senior Palestinian leaders arrived in Paris tonight to find out for themselves whether Mr. Arafat is alive or clinically dead, curable or not. But as they scheduled meetings for Tuesday with President Jacques Chirac of France and his foreign minister, Michel Barnier, it was still not clear whether they would be allowed to visit the bedside of Mr. Arafat. ANyone catch articles on his intended successor. I've heard nothing of him, and am having trouble finding the article in the archives. I'll post it as soon as I do, but other people might have more info on him than I do.

To each his own here.
Doesn't matter to me how the board feels about the man ... I will still say this.
He did bad ... but he also did some good. He brought a nation hope, he got them recognised, lead them, did some terrible stuff as well (which I always acknowledge), prolly went senile at the end, stubborn and died.
So finally, all I wanna say is
REST IN PEACE

Looks like he's Arafat-lite, but at least Sharon is willing to meet with him, and his persona is not as marred by terrorism as Arafat's was.
