Speaking of asshole professors. I took PHL102- History of Western Philosophy in my first year and my first essay back i got a 45%. It was about Socrates, we had to agree or disagree on his work.
And then he told the class that the majority of the class failed because we went against Socrates. He said soemthing like "Do you think that Socrates would be wrong if we studied him for the last couple of millenia. Do you think that i wasted 10 years at Oxford studyign someone who was wrong!?"
So ever since then i learned that i have to agree with everything.
WTF???
WTF??? He can't do that! You're not allowed to mark an essay in philosophy based on whether the person agrees or not, but based on whether their points are valid or not. This is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard. What was the prof's name? That is just disgusting
It was professor Hutchinson. He was an odd one. Kept talking about how Rustafarianism is one of the great monotheistic religions and how smoking weed should be legal and he pretty much told everyone to try it LOL.
It was one of the most disorganized classes i have ever taken at U of T.
Oh and Lecter, how do Germans view Canada in terms of education?

You should be at my school, you'd be constantly disgusted. This happens here on constant basis. Some teachers..well, your exams HAVE to agree with their opinion if you want a good grade. They won't fail you if you write a great argumentation, but you'll NEVER get above 80% if you disagree with them.

Well, it's pretty much non-existant. People here think of the USA when you mention Canada. And as for the USA, people here think that the education there is at a very very low level And considering some personal experiences, I can tell why it is assumed...

Currently, I have it as a minor, but will change it asap. I really dislike the department and courses.
I'm in literary studies and english. Are you taking any English courses this sem?

Boo.. LOL that sucks. I know that in Portugal, people view our undergraduate system as sucky, but they really value Canada's graduate studies. Many of them come here.

I'm taking 20th Century Can Fiction right now. I gotta say, it's getting better as we progress (that exam on Mon was for that course)
Currently I'm reading 'Coming Through Slaughter' by Odaajte. Great book, it's all about and has the feel of jazz. It's kinda sexy
I recommend the JEF100y1 course. Why? Well, you get a major grounding in West lit. tradition, and you get to do some of the greatest works ever, from Odyssey to Dante's Inferno and Don Quixote. Great course, enjoyed it a lot. But a warning: there's a lot to read. 12 books, and not all are plays

Ohh! I actually went to one of JEF100 courses this year. with a professor forgot his name, but he was short, balding. Kept asking people about the origin of their names, and if they didnt know it he would embarass them.
LOL
it seemed good, but it just didnt fit in with my schedule.. I hate 3 hour courses.

 :?
You've come across some weird profs, eh? Lol, my experiences have been pretty tame compared to that. Guess I've been lucky
The schedule I had, it was divided into a 1hr lecture and a 2hr one, so it was more managable.
As for 3 hour courses
I have 3 that are 3 straight hours, and 1 which is divided into 2 1hr/2hrs sections. Only one of my courses this year is 2 hours/week.

Have you two met yet?
It's ridiculous to talk about all these professors you both have had and be within such a proximity of each other and NOT meet up.

That's just stupid.
It doesn't make me want to apply if everyone's so reluctant to even spend time together...
You two should go on a date to see Mr and Mrs Smith *laughs to self*

Neo, why is it controversial?
I've never seen that sign.
