Classic! =D>

Ryan has a point. I remember when I first started posting at BOM and it was 'bout March. I heard so many sotries of people I was just like, who are these guys/gals? The mythic legends of internet chat forums? Apparently they were, becuase like Ryan pointed out, there are tales of them all over the place on many forums.

I think of NF7 or whatever it is, and realize Michael's a guy who is a big part of at least two sites (one of which is his own) and Eagle was on Numbers and BOM and this site, and now enough people at least have heard of this place. I know a couple other people who go on multiple sites where I'm sure if they are anything like here, have reputations there too (I think I heard bABA and Ripper go to RT) And then there are the biggies, I guess BKB is one of them, but there are several more. I don't go to other sites and don't plan to, but I bet if I did I'd find threads saying stuff like "Good Times, remember when *fill in the blank* used to come by here and *fill in the blank*" or "This place hasn't been the same since *fill in the blank* left." Stuff like that. I'm sure there are internet celebrities. Now I wonder who gets names in other places?

Guys who go to other sites. Who is an internet celebrity? Anyone from over here get mentioned in sites that they don't go to?

If this is true, we'll have to start acting, looking and talking like celebrities.

I actually asked this guy where he saw me at that he lifted the spelling of my name.

http://www.maverikk.com/

He lied, of course , and said that he came up with it, and it was a coincidence. :^o That spelling was never around the net until me.

Any of you other celebs inspired a website?

I think that there are celebrities on the net, but not anyone on the forum. BKB is well known on some boards, but he's more like the fan at the ballgame with the loud blowhorn...lol Harry Knowles is a celebrity. Brandon Gray is a little bit. Celebrities are more involved with websites than forums, but they also get in the trenches too, and work it. Lots of comic book guys are net celebrities.

Maybe someone at our site will reach that level someday, where everybody knows who one of us is.

My money's on either you or Karl. Maybe bABA. Otherwise it'll be someone else who runs a site like Michael. Those would be my best bets. Some people have celebrity names though, like Mr. X, and RogueCommander, those are good names, so might catch too. :-k

You're the chick, and you could become a household name through RT's tomato meter someday!

My prospects aren't that good.

Earth to people with their heads in the clouds. Come on down.

Who knows Mojo or Brandon Gray other than hardcore BO data fans. Most movie lovers don't even know about the site. People like David Poland and Harry Knowles are well known and are online celebrities.

No, we are not online celebrities. We don't know anything about most people on forums. There are some real people like dolce, bABA and some others. For all we know Algren could be a transvestite who sent his neighbor's picture as his.

You said you already got the name. Why not? Those articles have been getting alot of hits. bABA's batman one did too. That's why you two are up there. Karl is just up there because he's, well Karl, and he's got a good mind for running things and managing a place. I have no doubt he'll get interviews soon. You two probably will too.

Maverikk is kinda noticeable, because of the unique spelling (that what'shisname lifted), but I have wondered if that name will take away from credibility, as if it's just some geek on the net, and nobody to take seriously. I have been seriously considering using a real name (just not mine..haha) as a way to look like a more credible source of info. Not sure what to do about that.

I'd say go with real name (or alias name but that looks real, a pen-name). Your suspicions are right. I tell zingy to put his real name on his movie interviews too. Plus it owuld help people if they ever cite you to note have to do a footnote that has the author listed as Maverikk. You should maybe link it to email address too. I dunno....

That's what I've been leaning toward doing. I can understand people not wanting to use their real names, but that's the beauty of the internet, you can make up your name and you're good. \:D/

I personally think it looks much more credible when real sounding names are used. When forum names are used, it just loses something in the transition between forum and website.
