That is disingenuos, Krem
Global warming does not change the winter in MN, MT or anyother place. Global warming essentially slowly warms up the ocean leading to disastrous results when the polar icecaps melt. Again we are talking in geological time. It could happen in 50 years or 50,000 years.

Oh, I know that's disingenous, that's why i put a wink at the end.
Regardless, though, Global Warming is more about scientists competing for grant money than about actual problems. Yes, the Earth is most likely warming up, though there still isn't enough evidence. But is it bad or is it good? After all, 1000 years ago the Earth was much warmer than it is now, and 20,000 years ago it was much colder. The Earth is changing, and it's doing all the time.

My opinion is based more on historical geological data than anything else. Even the most advanced technology and minds did not see the cause for the Banda Aceh Tsunami coming before it did.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Yes, historical data tells us that climate change can be disastrous. But we mustn't discount the fact that human beings have adopted to every possible climate on the planet Earth, save for living in the crater of the Vulcano or on the South pole.

What I meant was the earthquake on the ocean floor in Banda Aceh had no warning and today's technology isn't good enough to predict it either. That is why I said the catstrophic event like the melting of the polar ice caps could happen either in 50 years or 50,000 or not at all.
Human beings have been on this planet for a very short time geologically. That makes it hard to show that we can adapt to a catastropic change, the kind the killed the dinos. I agree we have done well till now

Of course, polar ice caps might not melt at all. The amount of ice in Antarctica, for instance, has been growing. We could actually end up with a Globasl Icing.
The point is - nobody knows. Certainly, thirty years ago, when the scary story about environment du jour was Cooling Earth, nobody knew about the opportunities for grant money that Warming Earth might present.

How is this not cashing in on a tragedy with fear mongering? There is no way in hell this article would have been written if the tsunami never happened.
And how was I "owned", BKB? All you did was provide an article based off a four year old study that says your MEGA TSUNAMI will probably never happen.

OKAY! The article was updated on January 9th! That has nothing to do with the fact that the article is based off of a study that occured in 2001!

In 2001 he and a colleague published a paper. It may read like a movie script, but it's science.
According to Ward, a huge chunk of a volcano on the Canary Islands, near Morocco, is on the verge of chipping off and sliding into the Atlantic. Another volcanic eruption, and it might go.
Again - this entire theory is based off a study done in 2001.
And that still has nothing to do with the fact that this is the very definition of fear mongering.

](*,) ](*,) Makeshift, it's a study that continues on TODAY, The PRESENT and that's what there pointing out, regardless if the study was done in 2001, it's continues on in the Present and adds the Canary Island Volcano a real possible threat if it were to blow like MT St.Helens and slide off into the ocean directly below..

Well that's exactly the point. Its a 2001 study (as it states) which was only updated after this horrible Tsunami in order to take advantage of everyone's paranoia. Its like freakin' insensitive "Red Alerts."
To repeat what fear mongering is going on:
1. Old piece of hysteria no one paid attention to in 2001
2. Suddenly updated in the last two weeks to capitalize on, well, hysteria.
I stand by my prediction that the West Coast goes under long before the East Coast does.

Oh, thanks a lot, Galia!
BTW - You summed up my points nicely. Once again, better than I ever could.
