Its surprising that you can't use proactiv and you can use salicyic acids - which are pretty harsh.
Yeah, trust me, I've tried to figure out the same thing. Salicyic acid dries my face out so I have to be careful how often I use it, usually I use the sulfer soap every morning and then just a scrub at night, and then every few days use the salicyic acid treatment.

I am lucky to have clear non greasy skin or never was a pimple puss. That must be pretty hard to deal with in everyday life.

Honestly, I don't really feel like going all the way to Georgetown, where parking's impossible, for Lush. When I've never really loved the stuff other than Ocean Salt anyways.
No i cant remember the make it may have been UK only, it was a supermarket purchase but it worked super well

Michael,

I just bought those two, and my skin feels about 100x better than it did using the Coal Face + Ocean Salt Cleanser combination a year or two ago. If Lush is giving you problems, grab those two. I think tea-tree oil really is good stuff, so thanks (I know the astringent there has witch hazel too, but it's not the witch hazel that's making me feel so fucking fresh). I've used John Allan shampoo and pomade before (and, really, if you need a new shampoo, I recommend "Sport" over anything else - it smells wonderful and is moisturizing enough without a conditioner on the side), but never the skin care products; Now I'm thinking the entire grooming line must be the best in the biz - I'm buying the shaving cream eventually.

The stuff i use is Tea Tree Cleanser from Superdrug. Found it yesterday. Excellent. Lathers up straight away and you just wash it off then use a moisturiser and your skin feels great.
Ive been using that and proactiv with Angels on Bare Skin every few days and my skin is, touch wood, clearing up.
I also had a spot breakout on my BACK of all places, so this suggests to me it is indeed the change of climate and water that is to blame.
Don't think that John Allan stuff is available in blighty Torri, but thanks anyway. I'm glad you discovered tea tree! I used to use tea tree when i had awful spots and it never worked, but this cleanser is super good, i almost always fire a bit of proactiv on afterwards though. I think proactiv can be used in everyday use but i tend to not use the full three step programme unless my skin is in bad shape like it is now
Shipping alone is well over £25 for the UK now.

So I guess this is officially the "skin care for metrosexuals" thread
Which is cool, because I have way too many products to deal with.
Michael: http://www.gentlemans-shop.com
You can buy John Allan's there. It's like 15 pounds per product, but the Sport shampoo alone is worth it. Trust me. What do you use for your hair? Unless it's Bumble and bumble, you ought to switch to John Allan's ASAP.
As for lip-balm, Burt's Bees is the best stuff invented. I swear (and it's probably only like 2 pounds there; it's $2 here, and it costs more there, so...). If not, just use regular vaseline.
Vaseline is also a great dry-foot treatment, especially in the summer when we're all wearing sandals. Put vaseline all over your feet, cover them in socks before sleeping, and in the morning you're going to be all HOLY SHIT!
My pores are tighter like THAT, but my skin's still red. Any thoughts?

i wish there was like a two day fix for this shit

Oh well it's not like im going to be out on the pull round here.

Michael, you know - I made the IRC chat (or, "recreated" the one from BOM) because people like you expressed interest.
But no one uses it (not even Korrgan and Mr. X to take their picture-fests outdoors), so...

Loyal,
Can we turn this thread into the "Official WoKJ Metrosexual Grooming Thread" or something. Where me, Michael, and you offer simple advice to the ungroomed, gross, nerdy-looking WoKJ masses?
The women can chip in, as well. But I've got a feeling that very few people who stare at box-office numbers as a hobby take care of their skin.

Burt's Bees is seriously some of the best shit ever. Carmax (I think that is the name) also works wonders on dry lips and cold sores.

I would use the chat.
But i actually hate IRC
if there was a java irc chat i'd use that. I don't like having IRC programmes on my computer. They just clutter my flow.
As for acne.
Proactiv is struggling on against this almighty breakout. Think the cutting out caffine from my diet may have contributed too.
I give proactiv a week or two to sort it's shit out and see where that goes.
But proactiv is SO expensive in UK. The UK version of proactiv has sacylic acid rather than benolyn peroxide. So I forward to you people - what other ben peroxide based treatments would you recommend? I know Oxy, Neutrogena and Clean and Clear all have treatments. I just cant afford paying £20 in duties for Proactiv ontop of the insane delivery charge they had already and the even more insane cost of the product itself.

Michael, caffeine isn't actually bad for your skin. I think it's coffee and cola that are bad. Black, green, and red tea are cool (and, in some cases, is recommended for clearing skin).
There's a java IRC chat. Go to http://dynastynet.net and then go to the "chat" page. The channel is #wokj.

well ill go on the chat tomorrow night because im up super early tomorrow to go to England for lunch with friends.
Definitely tomorrow night though if im not tanked. Thats almost a promise.
caffeine isnt bad for your skin but not having caffeine after being hooked on the stuff for the better part of a decade = is bad for your skin.
Whenever you have big changes in your body your skin shows it first.
The lack of energy from no caffeine too is taking its toll i guess. But c'est la vie, I am confident that this breakout wont get the better of me. I'm buying TEA TREA ESSENCE tomorrow.
SERIOUSLY tea trea essence is one of the best things EVER for spots. It is basically pure tea trea oil and you fire it on and it dries the crap out of that spot pronto. I used to use it in Carlisle when i got breakouts because my best friend had some and it was like miracle stuff. Works bloody well and very quickly too. I'd say it's on par with pro-activ in terms of effectiveness. Tightens pores and antibacs the skin too.

What about shaving cream?
My manly Colgate w/ Aloe was discontinued. I moved to the next shave cream - Barbasol - and it sucked.
I don't like shave gels. Does anyone here use a semi-decent, simple shave cream?

It was called "Acne" before, but the topic's never really been acne. More ChipMunky going on about Lush, Michael going on about a breakout, me going on about pores, blah blah blahhhhh

Oh, and before I forget:
Scent-wise, I use Terre d' Hermes deodorant. I got it as a gift and it smells godly (unlike any other fragrance, ever), but the spray was waaaay too strong. Deodorant's the way to go, unless you're planning on inflicting your nasty giorgio armani fragrance to the sensitive noses of the world.
Too much fragrance = tacky.

I don't think I am that metrosexual
I shave my beard once in a week now, lol. I only use aftershave and sun protector. I'm quite hairy (though I did try to shave it all at one time). I don't buy new clothes all by myself, really (!). Never did that, I think . I do care for my appearence but I don't seem to do many things to change that, so I guess I'm a little bit lazy and laid back with my style.
Yep, I don't fit the bill. Sorry. At most, I'm still a mama's boy.

I own 8 different colognes. Clinque's happy is my favourite. I have the perfume factory close by.
I have concealer for my eyes when it looks like I haven't slept for a week.
I also wear mostly tight fitting clothes because I hate clothes that make me feel pregnant.
I don't break out anymore. I haven't had acne for ages. But proactiv really works. The best way to prevent breakouts is to avoid junk food.
