Locked: Kong, Brokeback, Batman

Fighting: Munich, Walk The Line, Crash, Good Night

Shitty.

Only two of those films cracked my top ten.

Actually, I forgot about Sin City. I'm sure that's in the running, too.

Ok... I'm going to vote without having seen some crucial films... just to push movies like Brokeback, A History of Violence, Kiss Kiss, ...

Please vote for Val Kilmer as Best Supporting Actor and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for the best original screenplay and the best comedy! Brokeback Mountain is probably already getting enough pushes, I'd guess, hehe.

They're definitely in my ballot ;)

ok, I didn't vote for Documentary, Breakthrough, and other stuff..

and there's only 3 spots in the technies..

I'm sending it right now..

What's sad is that In Her Shoes will probably end up getting totally snubbed. Tear.

Hmm...

I'd say the ones most likely to have no chance on that list are GNAGL and Walk The Line.

When are you guys announcing the nominees?

Kong, Batman, and Munich are locks. GNAGL, BBM, Walk the Line, and Crash (not Match Point, which is next in line) are squabling over the slim remaning pickings.

How predictable, How depressing. No Downfall or New World.

Did Benny, alex, and Termi vote already? If not, I'm hitting them up for New World votes, at least for cinematography, score, and Kilcher/actress.

You have to give us a break here. I can't speak for everyone, but personally I just haven't been able to see all of the films. Every year I need a few months in order for the late films to get onto video, so I can rent them. The fact of the matter is a lot of good quality films that get limited releases (or drop out of theatres mightily quick because they aren't mainstream, etc), I am unable to see. I live in a place in Canada where I just don't get most of these films nearby. I don't live in one of those places where film of all kinds are hailed at giant theatres. I don't live in New York, or LA, or Toronto. It's a lot harder for a film fan like me to see and appreciate great films. Some of the greatest films I have ever seen I did not end up viewing until renting/buying the video. Honestly.

Meanwhile, I barely even have the time to see so many films in such a short span because second semester of highschool (now University, which makes it even worse) is bloody busy. I have exams to study for and work to do. And I'm not complaining, that's what I got to do. That's fine. But it does make movie watching hard. I haven't even gotten the chance to rent Downfall for Dr. Lecter yet. Living in dorm makes it even harder to go out and rent, since I do not have a vehicle. I personally thought the awards would be held later in the year since I thought in previous years we had agreed to hold the awards later to allow people time to see all films. But that's fine, I don't mind having them now, but my ballot is going to suffer. I wouldn't even be sending in a ballot, since I feel mine would not be accurate, but torrino asked me nicely, so I decided to send one for him. Perhaps I am the only one. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, Munich, The New World, Downfall, Capote, Transamerica (hell, this thing has only been on like 26 theatres max!! How the hell am I supposed to see this where I live?), Memoirs of a Geisha, The Squid and the Whale (a film I reaaaally want to see) plus countless foreign films that I really want to see as well (but are hard to even find at rental because a lot of places don't even hold such small/foreign films).

It's frustrating, but that's how it is. And my ballot is going to be predictable and depressing to you, because I just haven't been able to see these films without putting other priorities at risk (i.e. keeping honours in University so I can keep a scholarship, enter the program I want, etc). But I'm fine with that. I just need more time to see these films. 'Tis all.

PEACE, Mike.

Best Actor is also looking interesting. 3 people are tied for the last two spots. :P

If you haven't voted, get your ballots in by midnight PST (we're not extending) so we can have the ceremony tomorrow.

I am against downloading movies. What now?

Also, do you think a screener of The New World would really look that impressive on a small screen?

GO TO HELL

Seriously, though...

The New World was on like a thousand screens. That one was pretty accessible to everyone.

The only film I had a hard time seeing this year that I really wanted to see was Match Point, and I live in a pretty small city (population is around 150,00 0). I downloaded it, I watched it, and I was glad I didn't pay money to see it in theaters. I was able to see The Squid And The Whale, Junebug, November, Brokeback, GNAGL, Capote, 2046, and a bunch of other small films in theaters.

Also, if you're not willing to do what it takes to see the good films (downloading, a little bit of a drive) then maybe you need to find a new hobby.

My only worry about BB is that everyone who loved the movie thought it was a lock anyways so NONE OF THEM VOTED FOR IT!!!

THis list is getting be sooo much more interesting then those fruity oscar nominations.

Um, you don't get me. I live in G.E.R.M.A.N.Y. Movies here come out later than in the US pretty often. We didn't get The New World, BBM, Capote, Syriana, GNGL and some other stuff yet. We will get it and I will see them in theatres, but I am not downloading movies just to vote in here and spoil my big screen viewing pleasure.

Also, I don't want to sound preachy and to each his/her own, but downloading movies is against loving films, IMO. It just leads to higher movie ticket prices. It's a vicious circle.

I am against downloading movies. What now?

Also, do you think a screener of The New World would really look that impressive on a small screen?

GO TO HELL

Seriously, though...

The New World was on like a thousand screens. That one was pretty accessible to everyone.

The only film I had a hard time seeing this year that I really wanted to see was Match Point. I downloaded it, I watched it, and I was glad I didn't pay money to see it in theaters.

Also, if you're not willing to do what it takes to see the good films (downloading, a little bit of a drive) then maybe you need to find a new hobby.

Does Mike live in G.E.R.M.A.N.Y? No.

My post wasn't directed at you, Lecter. Clearly you have a bigger challenge than most to try and see all of the award films before the ballots are up.

As for the downloading issue, I was mainly joking with Mike. I don't download that much, if at all, and I generally think it's a pretty crappy way to see a movie. I did it for Match Point because I knew there was no other way I was going to be able to see it.

Watching a movie videotaped in a theatre on a computer screen is about the crummiest way to watch a film ever. I don't think I could ever appropriately watch a film this way, especially something like The New World which has stellar cinematography. Not to mention downloading on reznet would take four million hours. Such is the suckiness of residence internet. They also shut you down if they see you are downloading huge quantities of info, and taking up internet speed, or whatever it is they complain about.

PEACE, Mike.

Heh, okay.

Do you have a top 10 list anywhere? Did The Squid and the Whale make your list? I'm looking forward to seeing this film more than I thought I would.

PEACE, Mike.

Nice. I definately can't wait to see Squid and the Whale.

WOW, the Devil's Rejects is that high? Insane. I have to see that film.

EDIT: Especially considering all horror films I have seen in 2005 have sucked.

PEACE, Mike.

Did Benny, alex, and Termi vote already? If not, I'm hitting them up for New World votes, at least for cinematography, score, and Kilcher/actress.

I had The New World in many categories (director, actress, breakthrough performance, score, screenplay, best designed film) although not in cinematography.

Last year, we had 45 ballots in total.

We're definitely going to pass it this year. This was very successful.

Let's get 50!

Something tells me we'll be disapointed by the outcome ;)

And by we, I mean the people who have decent taste.
