We Would Like Your Input Please
Hello everyone. I have received several suggestions, and the MODs have discussed this since the start, about creating a seperate forum for politics. We would like to know what each of you thinks of this.
We had one for the first few days, and it was completely dead. Granted there were far less World members, but I would like for this to be a formal discussion from everyone about the future of the forums.
My two cents. I have noticed enough casual posts in the political and social debates, that I don't think would otherwise be there is the threads were in a different forum.
Do you, the members, think that you would peek into that forum once in awhile, or not bother? Do you prefer them here in the Water Cooler because you consider it one of the ways in which you learn about these things? Or do you find them a pain and are frustrated that the threads take up about 1/3 of the front page? For posters that do like those threads? OWuld you prefer they all be conglomerated into one seperate forum where you can find them easily? Do you think less people will participate in them if we do so? That that forum will only get 10 posts a day, and that you like the occasional posts from other members? Do you think you wouldn't peek into the cooler what-so-ever if the politics were elsewhere?
In general do you think it will help or hurt in terms of levels of the forums to split the two.
Please post your responces, but also explain them, so that we can understand what people's arguements and desires are. A simple "Yes, please split them" without a reason, doesn't give us much to work with. If you catch my drift?
Please, we would like to know how everyone feels about this, and don't be embarressed one way or the other, and don't feel bad about posting your reasons why. If you are uncomfortable voicing them in the thread, please just pm them to me asap.
Thanks for your time and consideration,
-Dolce

I think it is a great idea. There are some people here that are really into polictics, and should have their own little area to debate or say whatever they would like to say. I think a Politics Area should be created, it would definitely save some room in The Water Cooler, that's for sure.

While it's a good idea on paper, I don't agree with it. I don't think there'd be much in the Water Cooler besides question/answer threads (What is your favorite color, Sexual Orientation, etc). And, part of what keeps The Water Cooler the best place on the site is the variety of threads.

I'm with the pot smoking hippy on this one (torrino). No seperate forum for it.

That was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge problem I had at BOM.
It seemed like they thought it was necessary to have a seperate forum for every sub-category in each forum, and it jsut decreased interest in both the original forum and the "spin-off forum."
I, personally don't think its a good idea and doubt I'd pay much attention to a politics forum. Not that anyone would miss my input in it

That's exactly how I feel! I hate politics too, and don't want them spamming The Water Cooler.

I'm with stupid pooh-head Rod. If anything there should be fewer forum sections. I'd be less likely to check a politics section of the forum than I would a political thread in the water cooler section.

I think that idea should be buried in the vicinity of the weapons of mass destruction. No need for someone to ever discover and ponder over this idea again

At the request of the lovely dolce, I will elaborate on why I think it should remain the same
First of all, I kinda like how all topics are condensed into one forum. It gives everyone a chance to post on basically anything they want. Also, having an entire forum set aside for politics, would seriously hurt the water cooler I think, as well has the forum for politics. The water cooler would re reduced in threads. Also, not all topics fall into "world affairs" and even If they do, its nice to get EVERYONES opinion on the issue, not just the handful of us who talk about politics on a regular basis.

While we're making requests, can I request for Mike Ventrella to show up here more often?

I don't really think it's nessesary, although if it worked well, and both forums remained active, it might be a good idea.

I'm not sure what is best, but I don't think there's enough interest to support a Politics only section. Maybe a section for all serious things (which is what I thought the old world section was, but I never saw it much before it was removed so I might be wrong), not just politics. A "science, religion, politics" section. But on the other hand, would it get much action? It's hard to say. I'm actually trying to cut down on political posts myself.
The more I think about it, the section there'd be the most support for would probably be a sexuality section.
How's that for a wishy washy response. But hey at least it's feedback.

Yea, I agree. I don't think there would be enough posts in either forum if they are seperated.

Yeah that's kind of the point. we're trying to figure out how we can tweak this forum to make it more appealing to many different people, and to make sure everyone can find what they want here and a pocket communities that have similar investments.
Tricky tricky
