Are you serious? Two weeks ago, we read the Martin Luther King Jr. "I have a dream" speech in my English class, and in it he refers to himself and the people of his race as "negroes." Ok, well times have changed. I doubt a black person would appreciate a white person calling them a negro today....
My Literature teacher, a woman (well Literature = Theatre) talked to me and a friend of mine on that last year. She as well as some other teachers think that it is stupid not being able to call blacks "negers" because the word translated from Latin actually just means "black", so there is no difference between calling the people "black" or "neger". She says that calling them "niggers" is offensive as that is a slang word, "neger" though is fine.
As another fact, the word "neger" is considered apporpiate in Russia for instance. The word is used in many books and famous novels as well as in normal parlance.
Personally, I just don't feel comfortable using it, but I see the point that my teacher has made.

That would be dumb though, the onlyreason to say it would to be to "get around" saying "nigger" its ridiculous.

Just did. My PM notification hasn't been working well recently.
As for the reasoning. The word neger translated from Latin means "black". Nigger is the slang derivation which I personally consider much worse. What is bugging me, though, is that some blacks seem to call each other "nigger" pretty often, but once a white guy says that to them, they are very offended... I understand that they feel offended by the word, but why calling that each other then?

Friends often call each other names that they don't let other people call them. It's all about context and meaning. A white person calling a black person a "nigger" is almost always being derogative in a racist way. A black person doing likewise is probably not.
My question is why don't we just call people whatever they want to be called? If a black person wants to be called black, then call them that. If they want to be called African American, then call them that. That's not PC, it's just good manners.

I usually hear the term "nigga" being used more often than "nigger" when african americans are talking to each other. I personally don't like the word, and never use it because I find it offensive. But I guess they think just because you are black they can use it, and nobody of any other race can.

On the broader point, people who complain about PC are just as inane as people who are PC. As if people who don't like PC are the only ones allowed to be offended. And believe me, those people get offended by the stupidest shit.
Everyone is offended by something, even the people who complain about everyone else getting offended.
I mean, FREEDOM FRIES anyone? Janet Jackson ring any bells?

Nono, the difference is that you believe in what I say and I don't. Therefore, I call you what I want and you call me what I want, heh.
